How often Reseal?

Hello! I was just wondering how often Scamp windows/roof vents etc need resealing? I know it varies depending on climate, storage etc but just a ballpark figure would be helpful.

Five to 30 years. The sealing in my 1988 Scamp bathroom window failed at 26 years, the others are still going fine. I've purposely pulled the door window for a different reason, so that doesn't count either. However, heat isn't a problem in the Pacific NorthWET and I store my trailer under a carport.

I don't think you'll find an "average" that's meaningful.

Thanks Donna! So when looking at used if the windows/roof vent has never been re-done that's not necessarily an issue. I figured all sealant had a life expectancy so that is amazing your trailer has done so well.

If the workmanshp was good on the original product you shouldn't have an issue. We found a small leak at a window seal last summer. Not bad for a trailer that's now 28 years old. There are many a lot older than ours that are still in very good conditon.

On the roof I think the plastic vent cover will go long before the flange seal....My 96 Ive only had to reseal 1 rear window when I pulled screws out to remove maxi-vent, didnt leak before but did after I re-installed....popped window out , resealed , took about 15 min

When I bought my 1978 Fiber Stream, the 3 windows in the front leaked at the seal but the kitchen window (over the heater vent and compartment hatch in the picture) has never leaked. I resealed the front windows in 2004, and the bathroom window in back in 2006 when I removed it to have broken glass replaced.

i wonder how many leaky windows and such are caused by something the owner did as opposed to simple age?
you could bump and overhead branch for example and not see any damage,,, but the seal could be broken. or who knows what else an overly enthusiastic owner might do.

Reseal Schedule

We reseal when we see a leak. As far as I can tell only one window has been ever resealed, the front window after I saw a small leak.
