How often to backflush?

Just picked up a Flush King and cleaned out the black tank. Yuck! Should I do this every time I dump?

Yes! but I normally just use a wand from the top side of the tank. If you are in a real hurry and you are camping at a site that has direct dump and you know it only had light use, you should be fine to just do the dump and then refill the holding tank and dump again. That will normally work pretty well but rinsing it out is always going to work better.

We use a wand every time we dump. My wife sprays from the top until I see clear water come out of the drain hose for a couple of minutes.

The "Flush King" is not going to work very well, (if at all,) with the drain lines of a Casita black water tank. They don't flush anything, all they do is refill the tank with water, which could be done for free with your garden hose. None of those purported "flushing" devices or gimmicks located at the end of the discharge pipe will work when the plumbing drain lines form bends. You get a tidal action, not a flushing action. The only way to really flush out a holding tank is to actually put the pressure stream right where it's needed-in the tank, not two or three 90 degree bends away.
The "wand" is ok if you like having to drag a garden hose into the trailer each time. Then, there is also the yukkiness of having to deal with that mess and smell each time you flush the tank. I installed a regular rotating pressure flushing sprayer in my black and grey tanks. The flushing is done with a garden hose from the outside of the trailer, so I can not only flush the tank, but watch the "results" as I flush so I know when it is running clear. Only takes one person to flush, so it is very handy for solo travellers too.
I do use a separate hose I keep just for flushing, but it does have a built-in one way check valve to prevent any water in the line from backing up into the water supply hose as well.

If you want to flush from inside and have a shower in your bathroom you could also put a diverter on the shower hose and connect a short hose with wand to it.

I have installed the No Fuss Flush that is in Greg's pictures in 4 different trailers that we have owned. A clear plastic fitting on the trailer end of the "slinky" lets you know when it is clean. I will never go back to the wand.

when i was young i would go camping with my grandparents. My grandfather would alway dump a bag of ice down the toilet after he washed out the black tank. The ice would slide around in there when you were traveling and scrub out the bottom of the tank of stuff that was stuck there. I do this now with my camper and it works. He's been gone along time but everytime i look into a black tank i have to LOL ! I miss him.

I have some great memories of my Grandfather also, though I have to say, none of them involve a black tank
