Hydro Flame Furnace

I have a furnace and I have a manual. Pity the diagrams in the latter don't match the former.

By the numbers on the unit, as well as the manual info, this is an Everest Star 79/80 Series heater. I have tried to follow the instructions on the unit and on the manual-- they are very similar. Problem is, both tell me about a viewing port for the pilot light, and it's not to be found. It's certainly not where the manual diagram is. The striker's in the wrong place, too.

Still looking for the cable to attach my camera to my computer, or I would show you a picture.

Anybody had any experience with a Hydro Flame that does not appear to have a view port? :r

On my hydro flame the viewing port is in the cover that covers the burner.It is round and has to be flipped to the side to see inside.I will post a photo tomorrow night as I am now going to work.:wave

That's kind of like the burner on my old camper. This thang has a hole in the middle of the galvanized plate that's screwed on under the fan exhaust, but there is nothing of interest to see behind it. It looks kinda like this:

You would not want a flame loose in the area you can see behind the plate.

This is the Hydro Furnace I got.You will see a wing nut .Loosen this and the little lid will move and then you can see inside.I hope this is same one you got.

Wow! That looks more like my hot water heater-- nothing like my furnace. Let's see if I can figure out how to tuck a photo in...

I haven't found a photo of the sucker with the grill pulled off-- which is what you do to light it.

The furnace in the former stick-built trailer we owned, had this little, teeney-tiney, miniscule sized hole that you had to look into to see the flame. If the area where the hole should be is the least bit dusty, you probably would never see it. It really was tiny.

Well, there is a tiny hole, which I had looked at before. I suppose the striker could be defective-- are they a bit of flint like cigarette lighters? That could explain it. I've stuck the striker many, many times, looking over every centimeter of the surface, and haven't seen anything like a spark.

This is a job for the repair shop!

Kitty I believe the Hydro Flame is made by Atwood. I have an Atwood furnace in my Big Foot. The port referred to, to access the pilot light and other features is accessible from the outside. Look for an oblong door near the rear with an exhaust vent and grill- should say "CAUTION HOT". Should be two screws holding the door up. Release the screws and the door should fall back on a hinge allowing access to your furnace components. Later today I'll try to knock off a couple of photos for orientation.

Kitty: I had the same head scratcher when I bought my Bigfoot too. Had a heck of a time figuring out the view port. It's there , its about an eighth of an inch big! My heater is a model FA79. If you take the cover off, measure from the top outer edge of the heater about 9 inches down. Then from the left hand side of the outer edge, measure about 4 inches across and you should see the miniscule port that it is! That's the best way I can describe it, kind of like using the letters of the alphabet on top and numbers on the side
to find places on a map! Hope this helps!
