I finally bought a trailer!
I had just about given up, and was looking at tent trailers, after a year and a half of lusting for fiberglass. Then out of the blue a friend saw an ad for a Compact Jr, just a few miles from me! I called last night, and bought it today. It was delivered this afternoon! It is a '72 Compact Jr, for $600. Haven't had time to check it all out yet, will go over it top to bottom tomorrow. I no longer feel like a lurker when I visit the board. I had hoped for an egg, but am just happy to find something that my little Volvo station wagon can pull. Will get my brother to put the trailer hitch on the car tomorrow if I can. I will try to post a pic tonight, and will take better ones tomorrow. I asked the seller how much it weighs, and he picked it up on one side and lifted it a foot off the ground. Anyone out there know the specs on a CJ? I am just so excited, it's like being a kid on your birthday!

Wow a CJ for 600 bucks.
You can't lose! have fun with it and keep us posted, details and pictures. :wave
As you probably know, there are other Compact Junior owners here, so you are in good company.
Regarding lurking - anyone doing so should register and say hello- everyone is welcome on this board. Come in and say hi! :)

More Compact Jr questions...
I've been registered since the first night I found the board. I just felt left-out until now!
The trailer has auto carpet(?) glued to the walls and ceiling, what would have been stock in the CJ? Any suggestions?
Also, someone put some writing on the outside, looks like enamel or latex paint. How to remove without ruining the finish?

Congrats, Blossom! Really happy for you that you finally found the trailer of your dreams! I'm with Nancy - post more pics. How long before your first camping trip? (Gonna overnight in the driveway first?)
And remember! Now you can go to the poll and add which brand of molded fiberglass travel trailer you own!

More pics
Here are a couple more pics, it was getting dark, but the flash on the digicam was amazing.
As for the first trip... I go to dogshows every weekend, and usually drive back and forth from home each day, last weekend was 480 miles total. It will be half that with the trailer to stay in, so as soon as it is ready I will take it. Of course everyone else at the shows has very expensive rvs, with multiple popouts, but I did see a scamp a few weeks ago. Imagine me and 11 toy-sized dogs in this :>)
One minor detail...I've never towed anything in my life! But how hard can it be with such a small trailer...

Ahhh, what an adventure! I predict your dogs will love it, in part because you'll be there with them, in close quarters, much of the time.
I also predict you will love it, too, especially when parked among the big rigs.
But if you do start working up any kind of inferiority complex, the antidote is a reread of the How Do I Love Thee? thread!

Congratulations
:wave Way to go, Blossom! What a deal!
Isn't it funny? Sometimes, when we just about give up, there it is, right there is front of us. This was meant to be yours, no doubt.
This is so cool!

Yeah, but Blossom ... you are now officially one of the few, the proud and the happy folks who own molded fiberglass trailers!
Congrats on your new baby!
Have a blast fixing it up to go to those dog shows! Also remember to take and post lots of pix for us, ok? I'd even like to see some of you and the rig at the dog shows!

what kind of dogs
I have a little West Highland White Terrier he is like my baby. I never board him and he is with me 24/7. I do have to watch him around little kids especially if they run or make loud noise. Going to try and work on that one this summer.

Now I would carry a bunch of cards with fiberglassrv.com on them and hand one to anyone who says why such a little trailer?
and of course you are giggling the whole time your handing it over, like you have a secret, which you do.
I'm so happy for you Blossom. the perfect trailer.
When you get a chance could you remind me how big the baby measures. is it a 13ft scamp size?

Smaller trailers
Blossom - Having a smaller fiberglass trailer is a blast. You're going to love it. Once you get comfortable with it (which won't take long at all), you'll be grinning from ear to ear when people start making comments about it's size.
Charles came up with a great approach....if you ever need help, just check this out:

Vicious Circles
I moved my personal anecdote about small trailers to its own thread. After you check it out, be sure to add your own stories to it. These trailers are not only fun to camp in, they create fun where ever they go!

Nobody has popped up with the weight yet. Do I recall correctly that the Compact Jr weighs about 850 lbs? I know it's light.

We had a yellow Compact Jr in the mid-70's that we pulled with a Peugeot 404 Station Wagon. Toured almost all the lower 48 states.
It did weigh 850 lb. empty and about 1200 lb. with all our stuff in it.
The Peugeot had a 1.6 liter engine and was pretty slow in the mountains. Once we got stopped for road construction in the Rockies and didn't have enough power to get started. A couple of construction workers gave us a push-off by hand which did the trick.

I forgot to answer the question about the interior.
As I remember, ours was just painted with white latex on the interior. There was no insulation. However, it was desperately needed. It dripped in the morning and when cooking.

they didn't insulate the Compact Jr in the mid-70's? wonder why not. mines a 75 (duh) and it's insulated. I was just out there and she is hot today - in the 80s - sitting right in the sun with the windows shut. need some shade :dance
