I wonder how list members handle insurance while towing. In Ontario, insurance is required for the tow vehicle. Insurance for the trailer is not required in any form. If the trailer were to be written off, the insurance company would likely value the trailer (in my case a 30+ year old 13' boler) so low that comprehensive insurance would be near useless. We have "no fault" insurance here which reduces the opportunity for a lawsuit rather dramatically. How do you handle this insurance dilema? What is the best way to handle this while keeping costs to a minimum? Thoughts?

Derek, in BC the trailer has to have its own plates and collision & liability insurance even though while connected to the tow vehicle it is covered by it as well. Having separate insurance for the trailer although Ontario may not require it, it may be a good idea - if it where to meet with a problem when stored at your home or at a campground for example, you might want to check that your home insurance will cover it - my house insurance does not cover cars or trailers lost due to fire, theft etc. so it needs it owns insurance in that regard as well.

Hi Derek
In Canada...
Check with any insurance agent. We have our trailer insured with Elite (I think) for all risks. You may be able to put a declared value on the policy.
