Keeping door open?

Being a newbie, I have all these stupid questions that I need to ask. Please forgive me.

Just bought my first Casita (1987, 16') this weekend and am thrilled to be part of the gang.

My question is on the front door and how to keep it open when camped out. What do you people use or have attached that does the trick?

I was thinking (my wife HATES when I do that!) to fashion a stick to prop up against the door right under the lock and the wife wants to bring a cinder block (my visions of Lucy and Desi in The Long, Long Trailer) .

Does anyone make an accessory for such a thing?

Okay, first off. That's not a stupid question. I am the queen of stupid questions, so I'd recognize one.

They do make latches that hold the doors open that you can get at any RV place.

Like you, my '89 doesn't have one either. I was going to put one on, but I hate drilling holes in my trailer. So I have a couple of things that I use. When on soft ground I have these cute little yard art stakes that I stick in the ground. One is a flamingo, another is boots, then there are my flowers. Problem is they don't work on hard surfaces. Sometimes I prop it open, other times I use bungees.

I am going to do the latch, though. I just need to work up the courage to drill into the fiberglass. :o

Casita Enterprises (1-800-442-9986??) can furnish a piece of hdwe that is used for hold-open....it is a bent wire T-shaped unit riveted to the body with a corresponding slotted fixture on the door. Should be inexpensive..........

They also have them in metal. The nice thing about the metal ones is that some have installed magnets to keep them from flopping around when not in use.

Scamp sells the metal door holdbacks. I bought one from them. They're a little different than the standard ones in that they have a slight bend in them. Drilling the holes required a bit of a mental leap - but isn't THAT bad. At least they aren't in the roof. :) Anyway - I attached mine using bolts instead of rivets. They're held on with nylon lock nuts with acorn nuts on the ends. I painted mine black - but the paint chips pretty badly on the end where they fit together.

Hey Don-

Does it already come with the clothespin, or do I have to furnish my own? :)

Looks like I will have to drill into Cassie (my wifes name for her) to install it. I also have a rivet gun that I have never used as well. Looks like I will get that out and practice on some stuff first.

eeeeuuu, I must have a ritzy little trailer, mine came with a metal hold-her-open-er. :lol 27 years young and still working. a little rusted in spots, but other wize works.

It only looks like a clothes pin. It's really a device that'll keep the door latched even if the wind blows.
