Magnesium Anode Rod or Aluminum?

I have a 6 gal hot water heater with a anode rod, whats the better of the two
Magnesium Anode Rod or Aluminum Anode Rod?

This one is the Magnesium Anode Rod with the bump on the front.

As shown on this chart Magnesium will be more active so it will protect better but erode faster.

Check your hot water tank, many of the newer ones have aluminum tanks Which don't require an anode rod.

Correct, I have Al heater tank with plastic plug, and if i remember correctly manufacturer recommended not to use anode plugs.
