New Trailer Frame Warranty Coverage

Hi, Y'all

Can anyone tell me if axles and frames are covered by the various current manufacturers's warranties and if so for how long? It occurs to me to ask due to a current discussion about weight distributing hitches, which evidently are recommended by some trailer makers but not by others.

The question is:

If something goes wrong with the frame/axle as a result of such a use (or for any other reason), is it covered by the manufacturer of the trailer, or by the maker of the frame/axle itself?

That's standard practice in the big-trailer world, and I wondered if the same is true with the current crop of fiberglass trailers, too.

I can't say for certain because I've never purchased a new trailer, but since the frame is made by the trailer manufacturer I'd think they'd cover the warranty. While the axle manufacturer would cover that.. if it's a torsion axle anyway. Just as appliance warranties are covered under "their" manufacturer.

One of the benefits of buying a trailer direct vs from a dealer is the manufacturer gets to counsel the buyer and gets to physically see the tug being used (at least at first hookup). Unless, of course, the trailer is shipped.

Each new trailer I have owned had their own set of rules. The newer "lightweight" frames used in SOB are bolted together and w/d hitches are not recommended. Sometimes the needs of the tow vehicle and the trailer do not always match. As far as separate warranty, I was under the impression that the general one or two year manufacturers coverage would cover the frame.

I did find warranties posted for both Scamp and Casita...looks like it's only for a year anyway- I s'pose that's what everybody else in the fg world is doing, too.

So I guess it doesn't matter that much!

Dutchman/Thor, who build a lot of trailers under different names, also have a 1 year warrantee on the entire trailer. And they recommend (?) using a weight distributing hitch on any of their products that weigh over 3000 lbs.
