painting yellowed plastic?

Has anyone out there had any luck with painting the yellowed plastic parts? Our sink, under sink plumbing and several different things around the trailer seem to be structurally sound, but are very off color. Also, different things have yellowed to different colors, so it's pretty obvious.
Just wondering if we can get away with painting instead of replacing right away. Thanks!

Use Krylon Fusion paint. It is made for plastic and works well.

I'd use Krylon for anything EXCEPT the bowl portion of a sink. Works well on all exterior plastic stuff, but a place where your're pitching dishes or brushing your teeth... those places need to be scrubbed to germ free and the paint may start peeling or flaking. I haven't tried it that way, but still....

She was painted with Krylon five or six years ago, with no surface preparation, and has lived in the garden in all weather since.

Krylon works great (we just painted our propane tank cover with it). For the outside light fixtures and vent on our Casita that were very yellowed we used Interlux brightside: INTERLUX Brightside® Striping Enamels with Teflon® | West Marine
A great product - fixtures looked new although it's a little hard to apply.

Thanks so much, everyone. I have purchased the Krylon, and plan on working on it over the weekend. I will post pics, before and after. Donna D, thanks for the information about the sink. I was wondering how that would hold up. The sink is so yellow, it's almost gold. Maybe I'll just work it into the "decor"! haha.

Hello Everyone-
Thanks for all the help regarding the yellowing problem. I have before pics, but they are on Mike's camera.
We painted the toilet seat, under sink pipes, holder for the shower wand, the shower head and the supports for the shower rod.
Donna D. - I had the bowl of the sink all taped off, so that I would not paint it, and it looked so bad compared to the rest of the bath I went ahead and painted it. I'll let you know if it holds up or not. I figure that I would rather have to hit it again with the Krylon every season than look at the flat gold color!

Glenn, thought maybe the inspiration for your yard art was this lamp from the movie "A Christmas Story".


Jean, your paint job looks great. A agree, that if the colors please you, it is better to do annual touchups if required rather than look at something you hate. And you can change the colors again next year if you choose.
