Propane Check

Two things in life that I still have a healthy respect for are things that go zap and things that go kaboom. I try and do as little as possible with electrical repairs. Feel pretty much the same with gas. I've never been much for surprises, either. Especially those that can result from occurrences such as those I mentioned. So, I have a suggestion that may be old hat to some, but it sure makes me rest easier.

Do you ever walk around your travel trailer and just swear that you smell propane leaking even if no one else does? Or someone walks by and says, ''You better fix that propane leak, or you gonna go kaboom tonight when you're asleep.'' Even if you don't smell it...well you know how you toss and turn wondering about it? Well, here's something I do when I put on a new tank, run new lines, or just want to make myself feel better. Take some water and put several drops of liquid soap in it and stir. Then brush, wipe, or pour some over any place where it could possibly leak. One of my favorites is where the connection is that goes inside the trailer. If all is well, it'll just stay there and dry and you can sleep like a baby knowing all is well. However, if you look down and see bubbles (you know like those you use to make as a kid or like a baby does when he first discovers he can? Well, pardner, you got a leak and you know just where it is. I've even seen the gas company service people come out and use this exact same trick for finding an elusive leak.

Most of you probably already know it, but some may not, so I thought I'd pass it along. Besides, sometimes we just need to be reminded of a few safety features so we don't become complacent.
