We're getting close to ordering our Casita and I'm in the process of finishing the budget. I was wondering what the registration fees and sales tax for the Casita might be?

Sales tax should be based on the sales invoice. Except I remembered a friend buying a car from Out-of-State and the tax was 'not' based on the sale price. Also, the rate the DMV clerk used was the State rate only excluding the county tax. (??) confused

Here in L.A. county, it was 8.5% sales tax on the invoice and about $200 to $250 for the registration.

I heard our California (Los Angeles County) sales tax will be 9.75% as of April 1...

and Vehicle license fees would double to 1.15% of value..

Anne,

When you bring your Casita back into CA you should take it to a DMV office for registration. That is when you pay the big fee, not really sales tax, but USE tax. I really don't know the exact figure, but definitely over 7% of the sales price. DMV seemed to be interested in finding the VIN# in two different places. Casita will get you a 30 day permit for the trip home and that is relatively cheap.
