Remove paint from gelcoat

Prior to our getting our boler they put some paint at rivets, want to remove it and replace rivets with new marine water proof rivets.

Top front curve has some car body filler and paint, filler comes off main surface ok except in deeper scratches; want to remove filler and paint then do some gelcoat repair in this area. Have large colour match gelcoat kit.

The paint was a match for the oxidized gelcoat but the more we clean and polish the gelcoat the more the paint shows.

Also want to remove some painted decorations may replace with new art work done in coloured gelcoat later.

P.S. We have added a new furnace fit was perfect but the old exhaust hole was vertical and new is horizontal. Had saved the used from new water heater for repair at furnace will gelcoat the join to hid it as well at same time.

.
When you say "new" marine water proof rivets are you referring to closed ended rivets that have been available for years? Or is there actually some new type of rivet being offered?

Not sure how long they have been available but will hold 500 psi and are recommended by a boat builder I know who is helping me with gelcoat and fiberglass repair. Using 3/6 aluminum with steel mandrel to match original rivets in this boler for size. Purchased 3 different lengths and one box of 5/32 as well for smaller rivet replacement in two locations.

Will never leak for sure .

Try some old fashion oven cleaner. I have used it to remove oil base paint from gelcoat without any damage.
