Removing Stripes
I have seen a few differing ideas on removing stripes. I heard about "erasers" for this and went down to the auto paint store and got one for about $20. What a life saver. Slick, quick and easy. Heat and scrape was getting me about 8" an hour. The two pictures were taken about a minute apart. No scratches, no gouges.

Hi, Jeff
Are you removing the graphics prior to replacement?
Do you have a source for new ones?
Thanks!
Francesca

Leaving the "4500" for right now. Will be getting some striping soon. Heck, I'd consider not replacing if not for the smooth gel-coat under where the stripe was. Plan to keep the fade (patina) on the trailer for the time being. Maybe I'll try the floor wax system later.

What would "Robert Johans" SAY?
Francesca:
Send Robert a quick PM...he's the master graphics man...sometimes, he's even made completely NEW & FINER graphics for his priceless restoration trailers than the original version. It's all started on the computer...
Lucky me...all I had to do with my old Casita and Scamp striping was to pay the high price that the Casita and Scamp Parts Depts. were asking for new stickers.
Jeff: I LOVED your eraser...had never heard of one before, but will scurry out to my own auto paint shop and try to buy one...handy little bugger!
It looks like a buffer from the pic...how does it differ from buffing the heck out of it and eventually wearing it down and getting it to peel off?
Thanks!
BB

I guess you didn't follow this thread or the one on his 1988 Scamp:

He's got a business: TEP Fiberglass Camper Restoration

Robt. Johans owner of: The EggPlant...
Francesca,
Robert's a master CRAFTSMAN, who totally took apart and rebuilt his '81 (I think that was the year) 13' Scamp.
It was a work of BEAUTY...a REAL LAND YACHT.
He then opened a 'side business', in Bend, Oregon, and named it the Egg PLANT (...a plant = a company) where he rebuilds old fiberglass EGGIE trailers to the exact specifications of the new prospective buyers or owners.
He's a very interesting & FUN man, as well as a 'little wizard', when it comes to VISION and CRAFTSMANSHIP. There are several of his restoration albums somewhere on the FBrv site for viewing.

The "eraser" looks like a Cratex wheel (light abrasive bonded in a rubber-like compound) to me. I'd expect it to work much like any other abrasive paper or "tool". Personally, I think I'd prefer to use something with a flat backer like a dual action or orbital sander but whatever garters your sox. Are those stripes painted? Adhesive decal?

Hi, Jack
I'm pretty sure the originals are decals, but I could be wrong.
I've thought about replacing mine. The vinyl rolls my local sign guy uses to cut lettering from are a standard width that would evenly divide into the correct width of stripe for doing so- a cheapskate method that would probably be harder to apply straight than whatever they're talking about that Johans does...

Don't know what it is but pretty sure there is no abrasive in it. Just looked up a Cratex wheel. That is not what this is. It is an eraser-like material.

I bought a heat gun $10 at Harbor Freight, took the stripes right off.
Old credit cards make good scrapers.
