You may not be but the next owner may well be!!!

We have on this list a party who purchased a new to them Bigfoot late last year and it took them a better part of the winter/spring to get the floor finish completely off the trailer, In doing so they actually did some unexpected damage to their trailers finish - even though they followed all the wonderful (or not so wonderful) advise here as to how to get it off safely.

In their words they would never ever buy another fiberglass trailer that someone has put floor finish on!

There are some wonderful marine products made and designed for use on gelcoat that do not have the same negative longterm impact on the gelcoat that floor finishing products will but will give you an equally as nice shine.

So sorry that I upset you so much with my suggestion. But like all suggestions you may take it or leave it. But I would never publicly state that someones ideas are wrong. But in this case I believe that yours is way wrong. What works for one may not work for an other. My two cents mind you. But you are wrong. Again, my two cents.

LOL you have not upset me at all! Nor did I publicly state that someones idea was wrong.

I simple shared an actual experience on the topic and warned the OP of a very real fall out in regards to some of the advise that was given.

As with all things each of us is free to make their own chooses but I suspect most would agree its better to have all the info on the topic one can get prior to making a decision.

The wonderful thing about this forum is the sharing of knowledge. If no one was to publicly share their actual experiences and state why they feel that there are negative consequences in proceeding with some suggestion made here due to fears of someone take personal offence to it, this list would become of little value & go dead fast.

To use ZEP or not use ZEP, is that the question? Not sure there's a one-size-fits-all answer. I do understand that some folks want decades old trailers to shine like new... that's not me, I kinda like the patina that happens with age. I see it on my face.

I think what final application, whether floor polish or carnuba wax or ?? has more to do with time/effort/money. You will not get all three cheaply unless you use something like ZEP.

I look at ZEP as being a last resort before the decision to paint. Paint and prep can be expensive, ZEP not so much.

But ZEP or silicone or even good wax, ALL needs to be completely and positively removed before paint, or you end up with something that looks like this
