Repairing the gelcoat
I have only recently returned from driving the alaska highway. To prevent damage to the from of the trailer i installed an ultra guard on the back of the truck and also rear mud flaps. I figured that this would prevent flying rock from hitting the fron of the camper.
Well, as you can guess, there are a lot of small chips or dings on the front of the trailer. Hondreds of them. Must be from the smaller pebbles and gravel. Nothing major, but something i would like to repair at any rate. Anyone ever done anyting like this before?
Alternatively, i was thinking of taking the trailer to the local Line-X place and having them spreay the front of the trailer with the truckl bed coating. They say that they can do any color now. Has anyone tried that???
Any ideas would be a great help.

Spray on
i just had my truck bed done by vortex . i asked about color and local dealer did not recomend color for a bed liner because color for some reason left little pin size holes in the materail and might allow rust to form. but with our fibergalass shells this would not be a problem.
please keep us updated if you do have yours done
:cheers
ps liner in bed is working great a 1000 pounds of crusher run and a few loads of fire wood and it still looks new

You may have read elsewhere on this board that I already have a black compound on the front of my trailer. It's UGLY! It was there when I bought and I haven't gotten around to removing it YET.
I know it's not Line-X because all the Line-X spray ons I have seen look a lotter better thasn the mess on my trailer.
P.S. I've was told that it was available in black only and that I would have to paint it another colour (off white) myself.
**Please let me know if you find out differently!** ;)

Hi Rick
I tried some of that Canadian Tire sprayon box liner. It made a BIG mess.I had put it on the Baby Boler and took it off when I saw that it was not doing what I wanted.I got some very thin rubber which I am going to try next and use contac glue.Rubber Name--PVC Aquaproof--Laura said she used contac cement and I think the rubber I got is same stuff
You would find this stuff in plumbing suppy outfits

The previous owner (hereafter known as 'butthead') of my Boler had some sheets of rubber, maybe 1/8" thick, mounted on the front of the trailer with contact cement. When I got the trailer, it was curling out on the edges and peeling off and just generally looked like poo... I tried gluing it back on but it came off again. It was like the only way to fix it was going to be to peel it all off, and start from scratch.
Anyway, after painting the trailer, I sprayed on some Rubberized Rock-Guard from Canadian Tire and it went on looking good and so far after two trips, has held up...

Hello:wave
Just read your thread and thought I would throw in a fiew ideas. I have had linex liner sprayed in quite a fiew construction truckbeds and Im a believer. The Linex is smoother texture and a harder finish than other brands Rhino etc. I also had linex color match srayed inside my bronco floorboards and it also has held up great. I I did it mainly for rustproofing and was going to put in carpet but the floor looked so good and is so durable I decided not to put in the carpet. When I built my new rame for my Compact II frameless restoration I had Linex sprayed on it. I just got my "Bedroll" on the road and plan to have the front sprayed with a color match linex when I get it painted in the fall. I don't know if I have helped or hindered but I would not hesitate to use linex. The only thing my lines dealer said is that the white colors tend to yellow so he could not guarantee the white color finish.

Repairing Gelcoat
I noticed that the Horse Trailer has a rubber front and on the
sides of the wheel covers where you can stand to look in at horse.
This rubber looks like the same stuff that you get to put on
stairs (has a line pattern on it), is heavy and sure stops rocks
from damaging the horse trailer.
I know it is an option when you purchase the trailer but there
must be some manufacturers that have it available.
It is glued on and has a trim around it. A lot of horse trailers have
fiberglass tops and the trim looks the same as out trailers-except
up high and not low as a belly band. My 1/4 horse took the fiberglass top off, and it was easy to put back together.

So far I'm happy with the stuff I've used, but I've only had it out twice and I haven't driven any gravel roads with it. In other words, not exactly an 'endorsement' but
it's held up ok so far. Some other spray-on bedliner would almost certainly work better but I didn't feel like bothering.

Line-X
Wow, thanks for all of the input everyone. I'm going to take the camper up to the Line-X place this weekend and get them to give me a quote. It's the same place that did the truck bed, so i'm familiar with the Line-X product and would not go with rhino or any other.
I figure if I just get it sprayed, then i don't have to worry about getting the small cracks repaired.
I'll post a few pictures after i get it done. I'm thinking i'll stay away from the white, finish. Maybe something in a light blue to match the trim color. I'll let you know what the price turns out to be..

repair of gelcoat
Has anyone tried the new 3M clear plastic cover material ? I have seen it advertized in Popular science and auto books may work if added to unblimished gelcoat like along the front of the trailer.
The ads showed it covering the front of cars it's clearand allowed the paint color to show through.

How much was the cost for the truck bed. Did you get a quote for the camper yet?
What kind of square footage application are we talking about here? Price per square foot?

I have been waiting for your report on your trailer. Last year we went to Alaska and the front of our trailer was chip. This year those chipped areas are turning gray. Did you have the trailer sprayed? What would it cost? What did you find out?:r

Guys: I don't have a price on getting a TT sprayed buy I just got the price to totally spray a 1988 Buick at $2485. The front of a TT should be a lot cheaper. They said it is $44 a gallon plus the time and stuff to tape off all the non spray areas.

Getting the trailer sprayed
I have not had the time to take the casita up there to get it looked at yet. As the summer wears on things keep coming up that need my attention (don't we all have that problem?). I will take it up there sometime next month, before my trek to northern ontario.
It only cost $400 to get my full sized truck bed done. I figure it will be in the area of 2-300 to get the front of the camper sprayed..
Just a guess though..
