Would anyone know of a source in Canada for a Tekonsha 10" brake magnet kit, please?

Is it possible Dexter magnets fit Tekonsha brakes?

Thanks for any help possible,

FM

Try any trailer dealer, You don"t say where you're located, Cerka trailers in Milton Ont. are pretty good to deal with.

Thanks Joe,

Between Ottawa and Pembroke. I now know Dexter conversion kits will retrofit the Tekonsha/Fayette vintage brake but the magnets alone mount differently. Eventually I will convert the whole kit and kaboodle but these I have are in excellent condition save the one dang magnet. Hate to bin everything for lack of one magnet.

I'll start asking around.

Don't forget to check the price against a fully-equipped brake plate with shoes and magnets and springs, etc., all mounted for bolt-on installation. You might be surprised!

Pete,

Funny you should mention--magnet kits are only about $15 or $20 less than a complete kit! Problem here is the mounting systems are a little different but I could likely buy the Dexter mounting plate and fit that to the older Fayette/Tekonsha system that was standard on late '70s Surf Side TM 14s.

Does that trailer have a torsion axle? Just wondering if it's the original, should it not be time for a change?

Triple E SurfSide TM-14 from '78. Seems to have a Hayes axle with 10" x 2 1/4" drums with round magnet actuators.

Torsion axles are not throw-away because of age, if they still operate and track fine they are fine. Thing is, even the brakes are unused except for one magnet which popped off its holder and wore to oblivion. Prev. owner cut the brakes electric feed long ago, thus the perfect condition. Just hate to trash all that perfectly serviceable stuff.
