Our Scamp 16' came with ST175/30/R13 Goodyears, we just discovered a knot from what appears to be tread seperation. We are now in Minot, ND.
I know tires have been hashed over and over, I have read most of them. However, most have been about 15 or 14 wheels.
What sizes can one put on a Scamp, I can't see 15" wheels, can 14" wheels be used without putting on a lift kit, etc, if so what size.
What are the options for R13 tires, are we stuck with Goodyears?
Anyone with a Scamp out there with the answers, PLEASE chime in.

We bought our 99 Scamp 16' used when it was two years old and it came with 14" bias ply tires that were fairly worthless. We assume the previous owner ordered it from the factory with 14" wheels. We replaced the tires with Goodyear Marathon 205/75/R14 and they have served us well in spite of the horror stories about them. They are now five years old and we plan to replace them with Kuhmo 857 in 195R14C which is 8 ply D load rated. My husband enlarged the wheel well to accomodate the 205 size, but we think the 195 will be better. The axle has not been raised and the trailer rides very well.
Good luck with your decision. Hope our paths cross some day soon. Your travel stories are very interesting.

I'd definitely go the Kumho route if you can. From what I've read over on the Casita forum they are raving about them.
If I could get them in 13" they'd be on my Scamp.

Kumho are only sold in the one 14" size. No 13" or 15"
I know that there are at least two D load rated 13" on the market. Duro HF 502 ST and Towmaster T 1318 ST are both bias ply 185/80D13 tires. I know nothing about these tires other that.

Thanks Tom.
The 14's are the only ones I've found.
Too bad, they'd sell at least three if they made 13's....

My 2000 Scamp 16 came with the same ST175-80R13 Goodyear trailer radial tires you have. When I had a tire go flat on a trip, I replaced both tires with the same thing. The next time I'll be going one size larger, to ST185-80R13's. I just don't see the need to go to the expense of new rims, when I can stay with the stock rims and get a tire with a bit more capacity.

Dan, I just talked with someone at Scamp and he said he had not heard any reports about the Goodyear's having problems. He suggested to go with Goodyear again. I am hoping he is correct. I asked him about the ST185-80R13's, but he did not know. He said to measure the wheel wells to make sure if there is room for them. The 185 will make them a little wider than the 175's. I'd like to go with the 185's to have more weight cap't. Have you measure for the ST185-80R13's to see if you have the room for them? They do sound better to me.
I have been reading about the Goodyears being replaced over on the Casita Forum, but they are 14' or 15' wheels. The gentleman at Scamp said there is not enough room for 14' wheel without doing some remodeling. And as I mentioned, he had not heard of problelm with the Goodyear's.
Thanks for all your replies.

From the Goodyear web site - http://www.goodyear.com/rv/products/marathon.html
Tire Size / Load Range / Sidewall / Tread Depth New (32nd of an inch) / Approved Rim Width / Meas. Rim Width / New Tire Width / Outside Diameter / Tread Width / Static Loaded Radius / Revs Per Mile / Max lod at Infl PSI
ST175/80R13 / C / BL / 9 / 4.5-5.5 / 5.00 / 7.0 / 24.0 / 4.9 / 10.6 / 870 / 1360@50
ST185/80R13 / C / BL / 9 / 4.5-6.0 / 5.00 / 7.2 / 24.7 / 5.2 / 10.8 / 851 / 1480@50
Bottom line: I've not measured anything, but I will install ST185/80R13's on my trailer when I replace my present tires, unless I hear about someone else's bad experiences in doing so.

After a lot of searching on line and by phone locally, I order a par of Good Year Marathons from TiresPlus here in Minot and I went to the ST185/80R13's. I'll have a spare tire which I found will fit under the tongue up front. I may get a wheel for it and monunt it up there. Two spares would be nice if I ever need two spares. And if we are out in an area where we didn't want to spend a week waiting for tires to arrive after being ordered the spares would be a God sent. My son believes there will be amply room for the up grade in width.
We will up and going in a week, Lord Willing!
They have a lot of 13" tires in the right sizes around but they seem to be all made in China which might be good tires but the one I looked at @ Wal-Mart the "rubber" just did not seem right. I did not check the others out.
Good Year Marathons may be the only US or Canada made tire in 13" trailer tires, the one that came with the Scamp were made in New Zealand.
The ones I order will run about $70 each plus tax and etc.
