Trailer plus connection.

Little is ever said about the plug connection & receptable that it plugs into. But there is a very simply tip to keep the contacts clean & a good conection. There is this little tube of electrolite grease that you can smear on the contacts. It will keep the contacts from rusting a give you amuch better connection. So you might want to keep this in mind. This grease can be bought most anywhere, especially in auto parts places, marine shops & hardware stores etc.
A minute of care is worth an hour of repair.

Thanks Joe

Joe, thanks for the tip. I have done it for years and have not had any problem
with my plugs or sockets. Like you I am a retired mechanic and do all my own
work. Their is a lot of things that we understand that a lot of people
don't, so I am sure that all the tips we can give helps them even if they
don't do their own work. Have good day.

Flat Four Connector

When I first went to install my 7-pin Bargman connector, I already had a Flat-4 on my truck. Hating to cut off a good connector, what I did instead was wire the lights and ground out of the Bargman to a trailer-end Flat-4 plug and "semi-permanently" connected the two Flat-4s together (gotta clean that sucker and put the grease on it).

Now when I have occasion to tow a trailer with Flat-4, all I have to do is open it up and connect. Handy place to troubleshoot light problems, also.

The grease works fine until you drop the trailer connector in the dirt. They ought to make a grease that repells dirt.

Trailer plus connection.

As for dropping it in the dirt. The grease is on the inside of the socket where the prongs are. Not on the outside. And only a little bit of grease should be used. Never had a problem with dirt.
