And if you're not in a campground with garbage cans?
Then I'm off down some remote river in a canoe and our food and refuse is suspended in a tree away from the campsite. We use the trailer so that we can have the extra conveniences. eg. washrooms, showers, laundry etc.

Small handled plastic grocery bag over the kitchen cupboard handles under the sink, gets taken to campground garbage can or, if wilderness camping, to the back of the truck cab at least daily.

Recyclables: depends. One local rec area that I know has visits from recyclers often, the bottles and cans go neatly beside the garbage bin for easy retrieval. Wilderness camping: they roll around safely among plastic bags and cleaning supplies under the sink and/or are wedged for travelling.
