What to look for in new scamp

I just got a 1986 scamp 16 and I'm in the process of trying to look over all the systems before bringing it in for a professional going over. Anything you can tell me about assessing the water system, heating/cooling system and propane system would be helpful? I'm planning on removing the carpet on Sunday as I'm going to be installing the allure flooring. The camper was stored in a garage for the last few years and has a musty smell so hopefully removing the carpet will help. At that point I'll look over the floor and assess for rot. It's a lot of the mechanical type systems I don't know much about. Thanks.

First, check the dates on the tires, having been stored for a few years there is a good chance that they are well over the 6-7 year safe life expectancy. Then check that the electric brakes work correctly. No Brakes??? Then it's time to get some.

Next come the refrigerator, furnace and water heater for operation and looking for water leaks along the way.

And, next, but certainly not last, is the electrical system. If it still has the original 25+ year old converter you might want to be updating that on general principles. I always update to the Progressive Dynamics PD-4045. As it was stored, be sure to look everywhere for any rodent damage on wires and piping.

That should keep you busy for the weekend.... Lets us know what you find.....

Congratulations on the new egg!

One helpful resource on this site is Fiberglass RV - Document Center

There is a section for appliances that contains downloadable manuals for many common RV appliances. You'll need to figure out what you have - manufacturer and model.

There is also a section containing trailer owner's manuals from the manufacturers, but I noticed that there was only one Scamp document. Even if it's not for 1986, it likely has some helpful information. A lot of things haven't changed much over the years.

Have fun playing with your new toy! And remember... you don't have to master every system to start camping. I've had our Scamp two years, and I am just getting ready to figure out the furnace.
