Wood Rack

I am wondering if anybody has made a wood rack for there trailer? I was thinking about mounting angle iron to the underside of the front A frame of my scamp and then being able to store wood on either side of the A frame structure.

Just wondering if anybody else has had this idea and what they did.

Nice idea but.....No, for two reasons.
1. Not enough ground clearance. I wouldn't get past the curb at the end of my driveway.
2. Most campgrounds any more will NOT allow you to bring wood from another area. This is to prevent the transport of bugs and disease from other areas.

They even checked our wood at the Ag stop entering CA this last Summer. Ours was OK but there is some disease or bugs that they are watching out for. They did not specifically ask about wood but I offered them a look since I saw some there from a previous rig.

When I saw this post, my first thought was that there might be a number of reasons not to do it like weight, clearance, keeping it secure. We carry ours in a Rubber maid tub in the back of the TV. We don't really s too much wood.

When I first read this I was thinking, "Why would someone want to carry lumber with them on a trip?" I then realized that you weren't talking about 2by 4's. I wouldn't do it because of the weight. Also, the wood isn't that expensive at most places.

A bike Receiver Hitch would enable a utility platform which then enables you for a rubbermaid. example attached.

People have alluded to weight but not gone into detail. Wood and added metal are heavy. Whether on the tongue or bumper that weight will affect the tongue weight of your trailer and its performance. It could be a real safety issue. Do your weight and balance before you take off.

The bug/disease issue is also a very valid one.

We here on the rusty Northcoast know all about those bug problems. We can't take wood from our home to any campground or park anywhere, period. The bug known as "Emerald ash borer" is the reason, a metallic green little bugstard about an inch long has been decimating the ash tree population since about 2002. It got here on board a ship from Asia, and decided it wanted to visit Detroit. It's been on tour since then and now has quarantined most of Michigan and Indiana , more than half of Ohio and I believe parts of Illinois and Kentucky too. Just google the bug by name. I think the fine is up to $4000.00 if you are caught moving wood.

Here in Oregon, some of the county parks actually subsidize the park fees by selling campfire wood. In most places it's really a good deal for the amount, in others... not so good. If I was heating my home, I'd be concerned about the price, but for a couple of nights of a campfire I consider the price part of the price of camping and am happy to pay the going price. However, this doesn't have anything to do with boondocking... where there wouldn't be any prepared wood available.

I typically carry wood in the back of my tug... a F-150 or buy it close to where I'm going to camp. To me it's like carrying water... pretty expensive to transport!
