However, that's not the issue of this thread, the mildew from condensation is. Thankfully they seem to be unrelated

If it weren't illegal to marry cleaning products I would be asking my husband for a divorce right now!
Johnsons Family Scrubbing Bubbles Bathroom (formulated for mildew removal).
I'm a little terrified at just how well this working. WHAT IS IN THIS STUFF!?!?

Probably chlorine bleach, which is what I was going to suggest you use: water and a little bleach. It looks like it's working great! Yay!

yeah that's what I started with. Took a lot of elbow grease. This stuff I sprayed on, left for 5 minutes and it did all the work. I just wiped it off.

If you read the label, it tells you what's in it. It's not chlorine, but similar. Does a great job of bleaching any clothing it comes in contact with. I have the hat and t-shirt to prove it...and sweat shirt...

Yeah I wore work clothes. I should have covered my hair too. Good thing it's summer.

We live in Southwest Wash.....lots of rain. We remove cushions, leave cabinets open and place a dehumidifier on the floor. I use one like below.....a little more expensive than the Walmart products but it does not require you to empty a water tank when full. Cheap to run...leave it on all winter. These are designed for boaters.....they work great. By the way....wipe down your trailer with a bleach/water solution....mold will wipe right off. Good luck!

Friend of mine gave me one of those marine dehumidifiers. He no longer used it in his tug ( still has the tug ). I tried it out, but I couldn't see how it removed moisture if all it did was circulate the air. I now use two Dri-Z-Air containers, which collect the moisture and I pour it out.
Perhaps, if somebody can explain the theory behind the West Marine air dryer, I'll try it again, if I didn't toss it already.

Glenn......watch the video and read the reviews on the link I sent earlier. These units are used on boats all the time......I had a friend with a very expensive teak wood interior on his boat...he swore by these to prevent moisture and mold. I have used one in trailers for years.....they work well. This is the actual unit I use.....I have the 1000 cf one. The smaller one would do the job in most of our trailers. The West Marine unit is good as well.

Not yet mentioned is that mold is not only ugly, but is also a health risk for many, if not all, human beans. Because you want to use this in just a week or so I would suggest contacting a local mold removal company and let tham have a go at it this time. If it's not killed. it will return.
Whatever it costs will be more than offset by not having a sick family on your vacation.

Good advice but mold companies are pricey. Bleach will kill the mold but you do need to be careful with the fumes in a confined space. Fans and a mask are a good idea if you go that route. Once done....check for leaks and get yourself a dehumidifier. Good luck......

I hear you. This is why I want to make sure I'm done it all today so that I can then do another wipe down and air the whole trailer out for the week

You don't want mold or mildew, but like asbestos, people tend to freak out a little bit much over it. My ancestors lived in caves.

It doesn't remove moisture at all. It does more than circulate air, though: it's a heater. The Savvy Boater page for this thing uses the misleading name of Davis Electric Air Dryer, but at least it describes it honestly:
Quote:
The Davis Air Dryer heats damp air to above the dew point, eliminating moisture problems like mold, mildew and corrosion.
|
There is no condensation if there are no surfaces cold enough to condense water from the air. Any fan-forced or convection heater will do the same thing; I can't imagine paying this much for a tiny heater.

Information is good. Lack of information is not so good, but misinformation is much worse. Check facts, and apply common sense liberally.

When I get home from camping, I set the dinette cushions up on an edge to allow air circulation through the foam. Seems to work fine, or at least has for the past ten years.
Yeah, I'd think most of our ancestors lived in caves, but they didn't live very long either....
