1972 Sprite

Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me. I just purchased a 1972 sprite - very small trailer.

I noticed the light switches have three postitions - which leads me to believe that it must run on 12v as well as hookup. So I started looking for a connection for a battery. I found one cable with a battery connector. Its white. There is no second connection...

I am wondering if I am supposed to just ground the battery to the trailer?

oh what a can of worms ! 3 positions on a light swich could mean a couple of things like hi or lo lighting leveles 3 lights on or 1 ect.
lets start off with the lights
are they big lights like you find in your home
or are they small lights that look like they might come out of your tail lights?

i may be wrong but i suspect they are small and are powered by a dc source . look around do you have something that is called a power converter? lets start finding out what you have

There is a breaker box with 2 switches.... and there is a box to the right of that with wires coming out that say "bat" on them.

The bulbs are in fact tail light bulbs.

I am confident that the trailer is wired for 12V I just do not understand why there is only one battery cable hookup.

could be worth a thousand words right now. my guess is that your trail might bot have come with an installed battery ( my trillum and some bolers where like that) or someone rtemoved you hot wire for battery opertaion! in my case i run dc into the trailer thur an adapter i made . it hooks into the trail plug when not hooked to my truck. take a picture or two if you can . we will unravle the mystery .
( still think the cornle did it with the rope) lol

Normally only the hot leg of a fixture goes to the switch and then back. The ground wire has to go to the frame somewhere. If there are two wires at the fixtures, the black/red/blue is normally hot and the ground is white or green. Not to worry. Some switches have a built in rheostat to "dim" the lights, but are usually only used when you break out the wine and oysters....
