1975 Ventura - Closet Removal

Hello Ventura People!

I just bought a 1975 13' Ventura.
... I love it...

... and like many of you I have begun peeling out the interior layers.
The more I peel , the more I peel. from reading other posts - you guys know the story

I plan to restore the interior with gloss white and chopping block wood.
Kind of a storm trooper meets luxury yacht look.

... Well, I hope the word luxury can still be applied when I'm done.

Here's my question...
I have removed the entire closet and the overhead cabinets. I know the roof is quite weak on it's own. Can somebody show me plan to keep the roof strong without the support of the closet. I was thinking about making aluminum slightly curved roof rafters.... maybe 4 of them. Has anyone done this?

I'll post some photos of my little project here.

Hey Andy I am pretty much doing the exact same thing as you, Dudley sounds like a real good resource.

some info on that post and then he links to his post.
I was thinking of using aluminum to brace the roof as well, or maybe a piece of 1/2 steel thats slightly longer then the width and force it in so it naturally bows upward. I didnt really think about it until Dudley pointed it out. My ventura is completely gutted right now, and trying to figure out exactly what I want to do!
keep me posted on how yours is going and I'll do the same.

Ok Awesome Merc1fuL ... great to hear that i'm not alone.
I just waiting for the rain to clear up ( I'm Vancouver ) then I'll start working again.

in the mean time... I'm thinking that if I make a t shaped rafter... (not I beam, But T beam) with a slight curve it will sit perfectly over the vertical support beam.
I would probably drill right up into the rafter above it.

I have to make sure that the beam has a rigid curve though... i gotta talk to a metal guy.

I'll let you know how that conversation goes.

Cheers

i'll try and put some more pictures in the gallery
