1977 13' Boler - flange for brakes always on axle or not?

We're thinking about buying a 1977 13' Boler - but I need to know for sure that I can install brakes.

Before making a third trip to see it...can anyone say for sure, whether or not I will be able to install brakes without changing the axle??? The owner says the manual noted that brakes were optional but did they always have the flange even if brakes weren't chosen as an option or was it a different axle without brakes?

Sure would be nice to buy a Boler on Canada Day!!!

Can I assume it's there though? Or is the flange sometimes not there...

I don't have the flange for mounting brakes, and have been told that to add brakes I will have to change out the axle....again.

My '77 hasn't got them. The axle is 34 years old, so it should be due for replacing anyway.

Don't even think to keep the original axle. That is not a big and costly job. Just a few hundred dollars more than buying brake parts separately and have them installed. Why not just negotiate a better price as it is obvious that the original axle has to be changed?

You better check the frame integrity than make brakes a top priority. And even then if the frame is ok you should take precautionary measures and have metal parts welded to critical areas when you will have your new axle and suspension installed.

They will not accept less than $5000...in my opinion, too high given that we will have to replace the axle...fix at least three leaks...etc...

Although we've been looking almost a year now...I still find it hard to put a $ value on these campers.

I just removed my wheels today and Lo and behold: flanges! Sorry, I was always under the impression that there were none.

5,000$!!!! Unless that Boler is in mint condition with new refrigerator, new axle (with brakes of course) , air conditioning etc... it is WAY too expensive! I sold my Trillium 2 years ago with new frame, new suspension, air conditioning, new tires, new wdh, LCD TV etc , completely renovated for 4,500 CDN$. By the way I was towing that Trillium 13000 with a CRV and towing with a CRV or Element is NOT a safe option whatever say European specs.
