1977 Scamp reno...

So I got my egg a year ago and I have finally spent a night in it after a major cleaning... everything on this trailer is original down to the axles. I'm trying to stay original

I have searched the group and I can't find the answer to my current issue...

What is the rivet size to the original roof vent... can't find it on this or any site and can't get an answer out of Scamp HQ.This is the original and I want it to stay original (call me nutz after).

My plan is to remove the entire vent. Clean up the area. Rechaulk (not silicone) and then re-rivet...

look forward to hearing from you all...

PS: a cure for those that get the black molds. about 1/4cup of pool shock in a spray bottle with hot water... start scrubbing! And please ventilate... it did an awesome job with my once named "swamp egg"

Welcome Heather
On the older Scamps, 3 16 for the cabinets, 1 8 for the curtain rods, and 9 64 for the windows and more than likeky the top vent. Yours more than likely has the 9x9 metal top vent. Scamp sells one length of the 9 64 rivet other wise they are hard to find unless you want to buy 500 in a pack. Just move up to the 3 16 rivet they can be bought most anywhere.
Sorry for the typing errors, using a tablet.

do you have any idea of length... I went part hunting today, but I want as close as I can get so I get a good seal... I was thinking 1/4 to 1/2 in length, any confirms out there?

Scamp only sells one length 9/64 rivet and it is 9/16 long. Rivets : Size 56 (9/64" W x 9/16" L) 20 count For the vent in an ensolite trailer I use as you suggested 1/4 to 1/2 long 3/16 rivets. You will find the thickness of the glass varies. I drill out the old rivet heads and remove the vent. I then take a single edge razor and separate the ensolite from the shell just enough to clean out the old rivet residue. I clean up the surfaces and apply butyl tape. I ensure the rivet sticks through enough to install a backing washer. The backing washer really increases the gripping power of the rivet. I fold the ensolite back against the vent and seal with latex calking.

Hi Heather I have redone my vents as Eddie described.
In regards to length a good rule of thumb when using rivets is the total thickness of the panels to be riveted & then add 1.5 times the rivet diameter. You do not want to use to long of rivets.
