2000 Casita front AC removal

I have a 2000 Casita SD with AC under the front closet.
I would like to remove, clean and possibly ad a fan to help increase the performance of the unit in hot weather.
Right now I cant even figure out how to remove it. Any tips on removal or enhancement would be appreciated.

here's the "official" instructions from Casita regarding removal and replacement of the front mount a/c. having done this a long time ago on my old patriot i can tell you that all of those fiberglass panels surrounding the unit are for control of intake and exhaust air. try not to give in to the urge to just leave them out. i might also add that since your a/c is 17 years old you might want to consider a trip to lowe's or home depot for a new unit rather than trying to improve what you have? obviously, physical size of the new unit would be a major concern so take your ruler.

I just finished changing out my front AC

If yours is original you will find it difficult to locate a similar size unit as they have gotten smaller and cheaper and supposedly more efficient.

I did not bookmark it, but I had found a Web site that listed the physical dimensions of all the window AC units that are currently made.

That would be a good place to start to decide which way you want to go.

Some fabricating on your part will be required.

Just took out our old original 6000 btu 1989 Emerson ac from our Casita.
Replaced with a Frigidare 10,000 btu same physical size,only draws only one more amp than the original,so you get lighter weight,same physical size,remote control,and 4,000 extra BTU.

Eddie B. , what is the model number of your 10K Frigidaire ?

I just put in a 6000 BTU Haier and I will be switching it out with an 8K or 10K next spring.

I just pulled up the dimensions.

Unfortunately it seems Casita must have used whatever they could get their hands on and just built the closet around what they had at that time.

I would have to cut several inches off the bottom of my closet door in order to fit a FFRA1022R1 in my 95 FD.

They must have changed to smaller dimensions,still might be worth thinking about.

Just removed the closet floor, there were 2 square headed screws hidden under the carpeting nap holding the floor down to the wooden ac framing. Im sure the AC is OK and I plan on putting in a fan. I have seen on escape/tab and other trailers where factory installed window ac units were installed in cabinets along with fans to promote air circulation around the condenser coils to increase cooling capacity in very hot weather. Thanks for the help in getting me started.

If yours is anything like mine was take a good look at sealing each process better than Casita managed to do it.

Seal off the exhaust and intake and cooled air independently and you will get a nice gain over factory cooling
