Kevin, unfortunately it's not just hype. The
L-400 hasn't been manufactured for a number of years. So eBay or some obscure RV parts place is just about anyone's hope of finding a new one, and in some cases the needed replacement parts. It's definitely a case if an individual was looking to
painting a trailer with an
L-400 lock assembly, they may want to consider changing the lockset to one more readily available and doing the necessary bodywork/fiberglassing prior to
painting. Nothing lasts forever and lots of these locksets are just about at the end of their life span. YMMV
