2004 Trillium Door Lock

Hello Peeps

The door mechanism has puzzled me for awhile now. The button you push inside to lock seems to work Ok if you are inside. Trying to lock the door from outside can take some time. You have to make small adjustments depending if you are level or not when stopped. Any ideas or has anyone found a different lock to use. As these doors of course can not take a typical handle or lock not sure what to try.

Our trailer lock (from the outside) seems to have a multi position cylinder. Depending on which location you leave the key cylinder in last (from the outside) is how it will interact with the lock mechanism from the inside. In one position you can lock the door from the inside and not so much so with the other position(s). I'd suggest more trial an error effort on your part, LOL!!
Remember too these 'locks' are only designed to keep out the honest folks!

I agree that it is only to keep out the "honest" peeps. However I want to make sure it is locked while heading down the road too. Ours does not seem to have different positions from the outside. The adjustment is from inside with the locking knob being able to move in and out. I was told from Trillium that it should be turned all the way clockwise but then the door doesn't shut at all. Perhaps the sticker needs to be adjusted to work with that idea.

....just a 'thought' here and it may be a dumb one, but are you trying to LOCK the door THEN close it???

No I'm not doing that but thanks for the thought.......I have been trying to lock it to get a feel for the adjustment trying the door then closing it sometimes that makes the lock work......

No we haven't as of yet but that might be an idea.

could you take a few pics of the door handle (inside and out)....i think our door handle will require some attention soon and i will be looking for a replacement..L400.. is there a shortage of these handles or is it just internet hype driving the price up?

Kevin, unfortunately it's not just hype. The L-400 hasn't been manufactured for a number of years. So eBay or some obscure RV parts place is just about anyone's hope of finding a new one, and in some cases the needed replacement parts. It's definitely a case if an individual was looking to painting a trailer with an L-400 lock assembly, they may want to consider changing the lockset to one more readily available and doing the necessary bodywork/fiberglassing prior to painting. Nothing lasts forever and lots of these locksets are just about at the end of their life span. YMMV

Hi: Theresa& Dennis... Have you got a fix on your lock it yet??? I'm no Locksmithy but is the alignment of the slide lock and the striker plate off slightly preventing the door lock from catching the striker with the key? On our Escape you have to press on the door to make sure it's fully closed and aligned. Our trailer has a double lock. One key slot locks the handle...the other is a deadbolt. Only trouble is they are flimsy at best and would only serve to increase the damage done and slow the thieves entry by seconds. We do however lock the door while towing!!!

no fix yet...funny thing---it works 90% of the time, then suddenly, out of the blue, it won't work. very strange. dennis will take it to a locksmith, but is kind of hoping the present pile of snow will melt first...then he won't have to clean the trailer up again!..
but we don't need to worry about it right now, since the trailer is parked until february when we head--hopefully!--south.
