7 foot awning in a 6.5 foot track?
My '84 Scamp has a 6.5 foot long awning track... will this work with a 7 foot Trimline bag awning? Are there any other options for this setup?

Awning tracks are inexpensive and available at almost any place that sells RV's. Upsize if you feel the need.

Yeah, that's what I need to find out... Do I need to get a longer track? Does a 7 foot awning go into a 7 foot track, or is 6.5 foot sufficient? I really don't know. I have only deals with hard case awnings on RVs.

I think I remember reading in several threads here that the bag awnings are often (usually?) a bit longer than the track. I bet if you search some older threads you could turn that info up. I think when April Wilcox was awning shopping (she had to buy the rail) this was discussed, for one example.

Awning rail is sold by the foot at most RV stores. If you need to buy it before you receive the awning buy an 8ft. piece and cut it to the appropriate length.

Raya, thanks for posting those links... t looks like I might be able to get away with the 7 footer on my 6.5 foot rail. It might be longer than 6.5 feet, but I know it's not 7 feet.

Gee thanks, that's a nice compliment. And... I used to be a librarian
(But I have to admit that I sometimes do wish people would search more; because there is SO MUCH good information that people have taken the time to post in the past.)

I tried a search... But came up with too many threads on awnings, and none of them were looking promising. Thanks again...

mcbrew,
Were you using the forum search function? I have not had a lot of luck with that, so I use Google search. Here is the format:
terms you want to search site:fiberglassrv.com
The spacing is just as above, with the site:fiberglassrv.com the fixed part, and all typed into a Google search page.
That's not to say I begrudge you the search; I just mention it in case you would like another search tool.

And you can use search descriptors to narrow results. Using Raya's example and using descriptors such as:
+terms +"you want to" -search
searches for all posts on fiberglassRV.com that include both the word terms and the phrase you want to omitting any post with the word search

I'm totally out of the google loop for searching. (crazy, I know, I just don't think of it) However, when I use the 'advanced' search in the Forum search feature, I'll specify for it to search for the word in the Titles only, and it narrows it down considerably (so it's nice of you people that state the key word in your subject line).

Thanks for all the info... I got the 7 foot awning for Christmas and started installing it today. So far, I have both upper mounting sockets installed. I officially have the awning up! After the baby goes down for a nap, I will go out and install the lower mounting sockets. They don't need to be installed if you put the poles on the ground, but a lot of places we camp have paved pads, so I can't stake them down.
By the way, we got the Dometic/A&E Trimline 7 foot bag awning in "cranberry". My parents got it for us, but it wasn't much of a surprise since they had me order it -- they aren't returnable, so we wanted to make sure we got the right one!

Did you put any kind of backing plate behind the lower leg mounts ?

Bill, I did not, but after feeling how much the body flexes, I was considering it.
