81 13ft Scamp axle questions
Looking for some advice on axles here for my 13ft Scamp, im up in the air about brakes or not, im pulling it with a 2001 Subaru Outback, the price difference is $150 just for the axle plus brake box install and cost, also does anyone happen to know the measurements of the factory axle i got the axle width, 49.5 inches wide just gotta get the hub face to face measurement and the angle of the arms also, a trailer place in town quoted me $239 and $387 with brakes, but i need to get the order in today to get it next week, any advice or answers would be appreciated, thanks

You would never regret getting brakes. Sorry, can't give you measurements. If you're in a hurry, it's best to measure your own.

I don't have brakes, but I also don't tow with a car.

Just my 2 cents.
I think that you missed a great opportunity to upgrade to a trailer with brakes. Even if you don't think that you need them, it will increase your resale value and make it easier to tow with a smaller vehicle as gas prices continue to rise.

I tow with an Outback and I would put brakes on it for sure! Despite what Scamp tells you its a good bet that the trailer with your goods in it will come in over the Subaru requirement of brakes in anything it tows over 1000lbs.

If you changed your mind, just pick up the phone and call 'em. It might not be shipped yet.

It costs *a lot more* to have the brakes put on an axle after the fact. Not to mention that if the new Outback is under warranty then towing outside their specs without brakes may not be to your favor. I have no doubt the Outback with stop the trailer just fine but there is a cost to it - you will go through brake pads fast.....
