83 Scamp Door Hinge info?

My rig is on the road
(Simply, Lesa)
Aaaaaaand the restoration continues - I need to learn all that I can about my door hinges. Mine are loose and before me and some guy assistance take them off to make my door work better. I want to know all that I can. I only have mobile app access - nope no computer. Would you all be kind enough to share the 'how to' information.

Thanks in advance. [emoji6]

Lesa, this is from an oldly, moldy but GOODY Scamp owner. It's not about the hinges, it's about the brass ball and hinge pins... YMMV

All my nuts, bolts and washers are loose. The wooden backing plates or spacers on the inside of the wall are cracked, broken and leaked in the rain.
It would be helpful if I could see a picture of one installed correctly. All I know is what I have.
My auto mechanic, a few towns and days ago was excited to help with my Scamp until he saw it - and he had lived in a Scamp while attending school in Phoenix. His had been a newer model.
I get it that the principal is simple - I feel as though I'm working blind because of inexperience with these babies.

Donna is correct, usually what goes bad is the brass ball and the spring and bolt rust. I have actually seen the ball seats wear and in that case the complete hinge assy. must be replaced. Note: There is a top and bottom hinge so don't mix them up.
Scamp does not use wood backing plates nor do they use butyl tape behind the hinges. They also use bolts on the inside and acorn nuts on the outside of the hinges. Without butyl tape behind the hinge water can enter the trailer and in your case it has rotted the wood backer and made the hinge loose. Also in your case someone has relocated one hinge on the shell to realign the door to compensate for door frame sag or for damage caused by the wind catching the door and cracking the shell.
The picture supplied by Kootenai shows how the ball should sit in the hinge if the hinge seats or ball are worn you will not see as much brass.
You need to determine if the hinge / balls are worn, determine how bad the shell damage is (and repair if needed) and replace the wood backing plates with aluminum backing plates. Also I would replace all the mounting hardware with stainless hardware. I can't give you much more advice without looking at the actual trailer.

Thank you all so much.
MsDonna I apologize because initially I did not understand your message.
MsKootenaigirl - pictures are worth a thousand words.
Eddie I needed your explanation. Perhaps we can successfully make an improvement now.

(Respectful bow)
