Hi, Joy

I don't have a solar panel but have wondered if one couldn't directly charge a battery pack like the ones under discussion by using a male- to- male plug.
Is that what you have in mind?

Thanks!

Francesca

I have two power packs. The Harbor Freight one that I use for the Scamp has a dedicated port for charging. The other one (just a jump starter and 12v power) has a charging port, but also came with a male-male cigarette lighter plug for charging in the car. I have charged it from a small solar panel, and it worked fine. I would assume that the same could be done with the Harbor Freight one, but I haven't tried. The 12v cord that came with it has a cig lighter plug on one end, but a small round plug that goes into the power pack. Similar to that a portable radio might have.

Charging probably depends on the battery pack/jump starter you purchase.

My B & D Electromate 400 can be charged two ways as I previously stated.

1. Via d/c which a cigarette connection to Electromate and to an remote d/c outlet, such as your car, your trailer etc.

2. Via a/c which is by connecting an extension cord to the Electromate 400 and then plugging it in to a household outlet, such as campground, trailer, any other a/c outlet.

Then I want an additional connection using my solar panel so that's why I'll make a pig tail to connect the Electromate 400 to my solar panel via the d/c outlet.

I've never really looked at other jump starter so I don't know if you have the two options for charging that mine came with.

As a rank newcomer to this brave new internet forum world, I had some trouble with the "OT", too.
I THOUGHT it meant "off topic, but since Bobbie STARTED the topic it threw me for a bit of a loop...
I finally decided that she meant "off the topic of trailers" since she goes on to discuss the power pack as an at-home supply in case of a power outage.

Onward through the fog!

Right, but now it is back ON the topic of trailers and OFF the OFF TOPIC topic I started with. How topical... I mean typical!

OT We just invested in Texting. We find our grandkids alwys respomd to a text where an email and even a phone call may languish. As well it's not expensive.

On top of that you can send a text any time. You can't call anytime - class, work, ....

Just a thought,

Norm
