I have a 05 Scamp 13 ft Deluxe with Shower and Toilet. One feature of the shower is that the floor is a 7 inch deep basin that holds water for eventual pumping to the gray water tank.

At first I found using the S/T space kind of awkward. Relative to the shower floor the toilet is too high. While manuvering in the S/T room there is nothing to grab on to except the sink which is soft and flexible. While showering every surface gets wet and soapy making things more unstable that this 70 year old (with a new back operation) can deal with.

I did two things that seem to take care of my problems:

1. I put a very large drawer pull on the wood surface on the side of the door. Almost as good as a medical grab bar.

2. I built a 4 inch high wood platform that fits into the shower basin that can be easily removed for cleaning. That is relatively non-slippery, and adds the height I need.

Now I know (from Bullard) that the 13 Scamp deluxe is fairly rare so my problem is not common. On the other hand who knows?

I have noticed that same shower floor / toilet height relationship situation in our Fiber Stream. I get uncomfortable with my feet dangling a la "Edith Ann" (a Lilly Tomlin comedy character). What species of wood did you use for your platform?

Last year, Robert had a nasty slip and fall incident in the shower, and the only thing he had to grab was the bracket that holds the shower head; which ripped right out of the wall. I think I gotta add one of those drawer handle thingies.

Thank you for posting your solutions.

I used a high quality douglas fir (smooth finish, no knots) and stainless steel screws. I would have liked to used cedar or teak but I figure the fir will last long enough so that if it rots I can replace it.

Ron,

I have a 5th wheel deluxe that also needs a handle. Thanks for posting your picture.

I'm thinking about installing a shower curtain which will hang from a curved rod suspended from the ceiling. Something similar to the ones people installl over clawfoot tubs. That way I don't have to wipe down the toilet and all the walls. Would something like this be helpful for your situation?

Nita

I like the idea of the floor platform. I found like in my 16 the same thing as Fredrick said:

... the toilet was to high...

Perhaps it would help except I don't wipe down my walls. I'm a bit of a slob. Ron
