I have acquired a Carefree awning for my 17 foot boler and I am wondering if anyone else has installed a regular roll-up awning on one of our eggs. The problem I have, which is common to most fibreglass trailers due to their egg shape, is the curvature of the sides does not work with the standard straight arms. They have to be modified and I wonder what anyone else has done.

Hi Al

I was wondering what you ended up doing for an awning on your 17 ft boler...or if anyone else has any thoughts or suggestions. I just purchased a 17 boler and would like to attach a roll out awning if it is possible

Our 17' boler has a 1978 roll awning; they used same style on airstreams of same vintage. Arms are curved.
Plan on getting a new roller and cloth for it.

Planning to go with a Fiamma F45 or similar on my 18ft 5500. No visible arms when stowed.

I watched the video for the Fiamma awning. Looks slick but i am worried about how well it will mount on the curve. Do you have enough vertical spa e on your 5500 to mount it?

I've seen two T5500 with case awnings like the Fiamma (one was a Fiamma F45, the other one I'm not sure, but very similar at least).
Instead of using attachment brackets like Fiammas usually have, the awnings I've seen were mounted on a 2" aluminium angle that ran along the original awning track (probably screwed or bolted to it I guess). This spread the weight and load along the entire edge of the roof instead of only 2 or 3 brackets, and raised the awning case a bit, giving more clearance with the top of the door.
On the 5500 the top of the door is very close to the rounded edge of the roof, there is only like a couple of inches between the top of the door and the awning track.

I would have to look at them again before I decide on how exactly to mount one on mine.

Does someone knows if Fiamma USA is back in business since last years' events?

I will certainly document everything and post it on my renovation thread. Hopefully next summer!

I would be worried about the stress the Flama F45 would be putting on the fiberglass. Some reinforcement might be needed especially in a windy area and with no legs the awning would tend to flap in the wind and put even more stress on the fiberglass.

Ya good point. I did see one video that showed an awning with legs, but no legs would be bad. Maybe it was just the option i had looked at. Ill take another look
