I do have a terminal block and quick disconnect. I may just connect two red and black wires from the poles, then cap the ends and tuck them into the compartment for use with the alligator clips.

However, I will look into the Anderson PowerPoles. I did not know they existed. It may also be that I do not use 12v power because I do not have it available outside. Thanks for the idea Gordon2.

Turns out I have an Anderson Disconnect on the trailer battery.

Just went on Amazon to research Anderson PowerPoles. Wow. There is a whole new world of new tools and neat stuff based on these Anderson thingies...

Being one who likes redundancies, I have the 12VDC compressor and a hand pump in the Scamp. Not one of the little light weight "bike" pumps. It looks rather big and old fashioned. Cheap insurance.

I have used Anderson Connectors for several years and I find that in outside applications they will rust. I used them on my Solar installation.

air pump

Why don't you do it on the cheap. Buy an air pump that you can plug into the auto lighter and an extension either 10-ft or 25-ft. The cost of the pump at Auto zone is about $20.00 and the extension cord about $7.00.

I just carry a portable battery pack with the compressor built in. It will let you use 12V anywhere - like the Endless Breeze fan on the dog crates or humans. It also charges all the USB devices.

A good-quality set of jumper cables will have heavy gauge wires. Instant 'extension cord'. Just another option. But be very careful that the black and red clips can't touch each other when you're connected to the battery.

I have a Viair 400P which I use to air up my Jeep tires when 4-wheeling in Utah. I have a 7-pin wiring harness on the Jeep so instead of opening the hood and hooking up the alligator clips to the Jeep battery I made this pigtail to hook into the TV 7-pin connector. I had an extra male 7-pin connector and wired the pigtail to the hot and ground pins. The posts I hook the alligator clips to, are marine grounding connectors that I had left over from a boat project but a couple of stainless steel bolts would work just as well. Everything is 10 gauge wire (good to 55 amps) and I can air up my Scamp 13 tires with it also. If you need a longer reach make the pig-tail longer. 10 gauge THHN wire would be good for another few feet.

Terry, that looks pretty neat. But I wonder.....the charge line going back to the 7-pin tends to be rather light gauge. Have you replaced it with 10 gauge also?

Mike, Jeeps with the max tow package are only 4 pin, which does not include either a brake wire or 12 volts to the trailer battery. Since I have both brakes and a 12 volt refrigerator I installed a 7-pin wiring harness kit from e-trailer. The constant 12 volt wire to the trailer battery and the ground wire are both 10 gauge. Plus, I have a 40 amp in-line fuse in the 12 volt charge circuit. BTW, the alligator clip wires on the Viair are 12/14? gauge lamp wire with a 40 amp inline fuse. Works great.

Terry,

That's a nice setup with the #10 power wire harness going up to the battery I'm thinking it might be simpler to wire the compressor wires directly into the 7 pin male plug. Then just plug the compressor into the 7 pin socket for whatever purpose. Run the hose forward to the Jeep tires or back to the trailer tires. What do you think?

This could be the answer for my Ram and my JK. Neither one supports much power through the cigarette lighter plug, and anything that will run from there is just a joke. The 7 pin is in a good position between the TV and the trailer, so upgrading it to actually power something is a nice idea.

Mike-Good idea and it would be a cleaner unit. I didn’t go that route as I wanted a set-up that I could use on a vehicle without a 7-pin TV connection. 99.9% of Jeeps don’t have a 7-pin. However, I have an extra 7-pin male TV plug that I could attach to the cut-off alligator clips and make a pigtail which will allow me to still connect to the battery. I salvaged the extra parts from a 2-foot extension I made up when the Scamp power cable was not long enough to hook up to the diesel truck I used to have, so it will be cheap to make. Also, when I made my pigtail I wanted to make sure it would work before I cut off the alligator clips. Thanks, TM

I believe thats what I'd do!
