Almost sold my egg for the wrong reasons.

How many times has it happened to you ?
You advertised your egg, but then realized that you cant live without it.
Camping has always been one of our best outlets for stress release.
I am now 77 and have to camp alone. I no longer travel as much as we use to.
We had been RVing for 25 years, over 180,000 miles across the US and Canada.
My favorite campground is now the Galviston Island State Park.
SORRY but my 04 13 ft. egg is no longer for sale.

Bill, by the way you wrote, it sounds as if you recently lost a wife or companion. If so, I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Your job now is to take stock of all the good things life has brought you and concern yourself about what you can do to maintain and even increase in the goodness.

Number one is keep yourself healthy, both physically and mentally. Because if those two are in place, it is much easier to keep all the rest of living in its good and proper place.

I wish you many happy, eventful, added years to those 77. There must be many crooks and crannys in the world that you haven't seen yet with your 'traveling rig'.

Bill - I'm pleased you changed your mind and plan to keep on Scamping. At 70 I see you as a model for my own future. I'll probably be doing a back fusion soon and know the recovery takes a while. I went out back and looked at the 13' Scamp and thought about selling it.

But what the hell, if you can hang in there so can I. Ron

Hooray for your daughter! Too many offspring want their parents to slow down; yours is a keeper! (Unless you are leaving it to her in your will and she wants to ensure it's still there to be inherited , but that still would leave her on the smart side of the stupid boundary !)

Hi Bill! Oh man, I have so many fond memories of Galveston Island ... and South Padre ... recent as well as decades old.

I started camping there when I went to school in Texas! In a tent ... and numerous times since in fiberglass eggs.

I'm glad you're still camping!

You don't have to go too far have a good time camping ... particularly in a low-maintenance fiberglass egg!

And, of course, you're never too old!

When it comes time to take the wheels of your rig ... have them put it in your back yard or driveway. A great place to relax and remember past campfires!

My folks are 75 and 73 and still haul a 10,000 lb 5th wheel around. I've talked them into touring the Casita factory, and they're considering ordering a Casita 17 so Dad doesn't have to work quite so hard at dragging their RV around.

this year I became disable (back) and I have my trailer up for sale but no-one
has made the right offer, I don't want to give it up but I'm unable at this time to
continue like you I have been camping since the 60's
and I know I'll miss it
but good for you.

As Charles said, you don't have to go very far. Living in Houston, you have many wonderful (and varied) places to camp within a short drive. I'm glad that you are keeping it, but more importantly, I'm glad that YOU know why your keeping it.

Man, I hope I'm fit enough at 75 to drag a 10,000 lb trailer - even at middle-aged, I have to use a van to drag my Boler!

I know what you mean... all of the cranking of jacks and other manual work is worse with a heavier trailer.

I couldn't help but reply to this. It touched me in a special way. I just joined this site a few minutes ago looking for a repair idea for my Scamp trailer. My Dad and Mom bought it in 1985 and shared a lot of great memories in it over the years. Mom died of cancer two years ago ,and Dad has simply given up on being happy. He gave me the Scamp because he no longer has the heart for it...or anything. He is 80 years old, but I hope and pray some day soon he asks for it back.

Looks like you have to ask for his "help" and take him along for some trips!!
I have lost both of my parents in the last 6 years. It is so hard. My Dad was so great. He went a kickin and a screamin. He never wanted to slow down, even though his body betrayed him at times. I hope and pray when I'm in my later years, I just keep on goin till I just can't go no mo.

Thomas, get your dad out with you in the Scamp. Just an overnight...and give him the big bed Tell him you need his help figuring stuff out, get him involved. Does he fish? Go camping near a fishing hole. It doesn't have to be for long...just one night at a time. It might do you both good.

The saying is "keep on, keep'n on". It's NOT if you feel like it. If you obey the saying (personal experience here) you'll soon find your enthusiasm returning. Often it's advantageous to have a friend or relative stirring the imagination, setting a time frame and instituting the action. If this gives rise to a series of events---even better.
It does take 2 or more to share, so take the first step towards reliving happy times and begin making some new memories. If there are some kids that can be involved, maybe Grandpa can teach some skills and create memories for the young 'un too.

Today is Thanksgiving, moping around feeling sorry for oneself is pretty poor thanks for the living.
I pray that, should I be in a similar situation, I can follow my own advice.
