Awning.....

Well good evening again...
I have a question about getting an awning for my 1976 1300 series Trillium camper.
I live in Collingwood, Ontario...it's about an hour and 1/2 north of Toronto.
Does anybody here know of where I can order a new canvas for this type of Camper?

Thanks again to everyone who tries to help other members!

Awning....

Well thank you again sir...I will contact them this week. Thanks again, I love the help I'm getting.
Does this awning just get rolled up on the top of my unit?

I'm glad someone is asking about awnings. May I add my question here?

What is the difference between a slide awning and a bag awning? Any advantages/disadvantages to each of them?

thanks

The hardware and awning rollup and into the permenent bag (which is attached to the roof chanel) and then zippered closed, and thats where it rides. May have to do something to hold the bagged awning up so not to interfear with door.
Hazel A slide awning is slid into the roof chanel when required and taken down and stored when not in use. The bagged awning is rolled up and stays in the bag( which is attached to the roof chanel) when not in use.The slide in awning has to have poles and such whereas the bagged awning hardwares are always attached to the awning even when rolled up and stored.
Hope this makes sence!!

Thanks again Ron. I have a new question for you. Can you give me your last name, so...when I call "Domestic Corp" on Monday to order what you got, they can reference your order with mine.

I don't think there is any difference between our 2 campers.....

Again Ron, thank you for all your help. My camper is going in on Wednesday to have all the checks done, propane leakage, fridge working, furnance working? etc.etc....

Thank you RRJR - your explanation is clear and concise. At least now we will know what is being referred to when a conversation includes awnings.

Thanks Ron, can you give me the name of the company you got yours from? Not having a lot of success up here in Barrie/Collingwood area.
If you can give me there website or phone number, that would be great.

Thank you again....Donny

you might also want to try a local marine canvase shop in your area. they may be able to stitch one up for you no problem.
and if it costs a little more,,, your saving shipping costs,,,,and giving someone in your community a little business,,,,which certainly has some value to you too.

OK - next question about awnings....................

Are there any 'tricks' involved in persuading a slide awning to slide along the supplied groove? We gave it a quick try this afternoon - Hubby started the rope in - got a foot or so along - then the weight of the material hanging down put brakes on the process. I'm too short to reach up holding the excess material out of the way.

There's gotta be a way - and I'm betting that someone here will have a hint or ten!

Try a little spray silicone lubrication all along the chanel. Also you may have to roll the awning up and place on the roof to take the weight off the entry point.

Being somewhat vertically challenged myself, I travel with a folding stepstool.

Got back from a shake-down cruise last night. We tried out that awning - slid it along just fine (thanks to the helpful suggestions). So - now the question is - how do people get it to set up taut and tidy? We had several inches of awning and a bit of rope hanging out each end of the channel with no clues about what to do with them. One end waved about in front of a window. The fabric didn't want to pull tight no matter how much we tightened the ropes to the poles. There was a definite sag remaining which would allow water to pool. Fortunately we took it down again as we had the loudest thunderstorm I have ever heard on Saturday night. Upon getting home we learned that there had been a tornado not very far away! Do you have to take the awning down when it is windy? If we got a bag awning would it mount on the same channel?

I would suggest that as a good idea putting the awning in when windy. Saves a lot of things.
