Bag Awning vs. Regular Awning

Can someone explain the difference between a bag awning and a regular awning? I was under the impression that they were just different sizes, until I read a post that mentioned something about the bag awning being placed inside the camper before leaving a site. Does it have to do with method of attachment or something? Curious minds want to know. (So do I! LOL)

The bag awning weighs alot less than the other type.
Easy to use also.
Just attach the rail that comes with it, and leave it on.
No need to put in the trailer.

I read a post that mentioned something about the bag awning being placed inside the camper before leaving a site.

In the beginning, there was just "The Awning." It was simple, but a pain to erect, and to pack, and to store. There was no bag attached to it. It had to be attached to the trailer's awning rail when you set up camp, and it had to be removed from the trailer when you packed up and got on the road. Much like a tent or canopy, it has separate poles and separate guy ropes that need to be staked to the ground. When you broke camp, you probably placed the unattached awning, along with the poles and ropes into a separate bag and stored it inside the trailer.
I believe this is the type of awning you read about.

In an effort to make having an awning a better experience for the person who has to actually set up and break camp, different kinds of awnings were developed which could be permanently attached to the outside of the trailer. They are:

• Bag Awning
• Case Awning
• Standard or Roll-Up Awning

The differences are in the way they are attached to the trailer, and in the way they are unfurled and stored, without quite so much assembly or dis-assembly required.

I have had several bag awnings over the last few years and the Shade Maker brand is the best.
I've bought them on ebay.
I leave mine on on the trailer all through the camping season.
All of the rafters and poles are attached to the header on the awning and unfold very easily. There are no extra ropes, parts or bags to deal with on the everything is attached to the awning
Unroll the awning from the bag, attach the rafters and stake the bottom of the adjustable upright poles into the ground and your done.
They're easy and convenient.
I had an 8 foot wide awning on my 13' Scamp and now have a 10' on my 16'.

That's the type of awning I have on my Fiber Stream.

I’m looking for awning options for my fiberstream. Did your awning come standard? Did you add it? Any issues with the fiberglass after adding the awning?
