It was a bit toasty in our little Uhaul traveling from Ia to SC this week, every night we stopped, temp was 98. Has anyone been able to figure out a mini air conditioner that would fit the space where the original heater was? We have a fantastic fan on the roof but whew, it was still pretty warm. You all have steered us in the right direction so far, we appreciate your advice.

Mount one on the roof, where your 14"x14" vent is.

I don't know UHauls, but Scamps that did not have a roof AC from the factory do not get the roof reinforcements and thus shouldn't have a roof AC put on unless you do something to strengthen the roof.

I'm putting a small window unit in my Scamps closet right now.

But if your roof will support a roof unit, that's probably easier.

I believe the CT13 Uhauls were not designed to support a roof A/C unit. I don't like the idea of a air conditioner stuck in a window either. Many teardrop camper owners have discussed using a "Petcool" unit, which I think is for dog houses, but I'm not familiar with them. Bob

I'm not sure what size opening you have. I looked a bit on the web and found a couple AC models that fit in smaller windows, but they need about 16 inches or so of width. Does you back window slide open on one side? Perhaps you could fit a small one there with some bracing on the back bumper. Several folks have done this. Here's a picture of one in a CT. You could remove it and put it on the bed while traveling.

By the way, most CT owners (and small Burro owners) state that the roof can't handle the AC without inside bracing and support.

Bob - I think we think alike... I am going to go measure the furnace opening, then go on the hunt for a pet cool type unit, if they cool dog houses, thet should be good enuf for us "old dogs."

The U-haul brochure shows one the top of a CT13. They also had rental's with swamp coolers on them. I had one on my VT.
I'd shop for a low profile unit with lower amp draw capacitor in case you my want to use a Honda gen set.
Camping World would have you in and out in no time.

I'm going to remove our furnace, that may be a useable location for a small A/C unit, but we probably won't need one. When we went south for the month of December last year it was never hot enough for A/C. Do some research on this as I think I saw somewhere a small free standing A/C unit, maybe intended for use in a small office. For your info, I just replaced our rear window with one from Scamp, I had to enlarge the width of the opening by about 1/2" on each side and put the clamp ring on backwards and it works great. Unfortunately the Scamp side windows are too small for the Uhaul side window opening but I'm working on a solution to that problem. Bob

Mike, I thought only the VT's had the A/C unit, but I haven't seen a brochure. The VT we looked at recently looked to me like the roof had a sag to it by the air conditioner, that's why I'm hesitant to encourage installing a roof mount A/C unit. Our CT had the swamp cooler but I replaced it with a Fantastic Fan. When we have shore power we also use a small 110V fan. Bob

I used one of these on a hot/humid night when I did not have a/c. worked fine for about 3-4 hours, enough to allow me to fall asleep. All you need is a bag of ice and a cooler--

Hi Jim... I was Looking online and saw one of those ice chest coolers and thought it sounded too good to be true...glad to hear it worked...sounds like it might be the best thing to try. Hey, are you on your way to pick up your new baby?

Two Escape 19's are being delivered here in York, Pa on 19/20 of July, other couple are coming up from Raleigh, NC- I just made reservations at a CG in Gettysburg for that weekend for both Escapes.
