Question bathroom transom window parts

Hi, we are attacking what looks like the worst leak in our 2005 13' Scamp, the small oval bathroom window. Removed it, the gasket was all crumpled up and it had been leaking by for who knows how long. The transom opening mechanism is so badly corroded that it's beyond saving. We also have some mold in the little front closet, maybe some damage to the floor. We are wondering what to do about the window: replace the whole unit with a new one? or clean it up and try to find new parts for the mechanism that opens it? or clean it up and install it such that it cannot ever open? We know we need a new gasket and to clear or make drain holes at the bottom. So far it looks like there are no drain holes. We read on here to use 1" butyl tape to seal around the window and no silicone, also. Anyone have advice for us? My hubby is pretty handy but I'm the one who does the research. -Heidi in NH

Well it's just my way, but it's a 2005 I would call Scamp and tell them that they did a crappy job installing that window. Then you'll just have to ask them how much the new parts are going to cost you.

reinstalled transom

So far so good...reinstalled transom with putty tape between the Scamp and window frame, and a different type of gasket between the window frame and window pane, and cut in some drain holes. It passed the leak test with a hose and we're hoping for the best. That was hard to fit it in with the curve of the front of the camper, ended up using a double layer of putty tape at the top edge to fill in the gaps. We were able to free up the crank out operating mechanism with an overnight soak in WD40, and it's still kind of cranky, but working.

5 months later and lots of rainstorms, this is still leak free! (knock on wood/fiberglass laminate)
