Battery Charging

Newbe here with a question. Does the battery on a 13' Scamp charge when hooked up and driving - engine running? Or do I need to charge the battery after each use? Thank you, Dave O

Dave, The battery should charge up fully as you drive, as long as you're going for at least an hour or so. You can get plug-in battery monitors for about $10 that will tell you the charge. Remember, the battery in your Scamp and the one in your vehicle are connected as long as the cord is plugged in so it's possible for your trailer to run down your vehicle battery. A lot of people (myself included) have put a relay in the vehicle to disconnect the trailer when the key is off.

It will only charge from the TV if the TV is wired to charge a trailer battery.

It depends on your vehicle and your trailer.
Some newer vehicles with a towing package have a charge line from the TV battery and your trailer connector or someone has added a charge line.
Not all Scamps are wired for a charge line.
I have an 07 Toyota Tacoma and had to add a charge line.
If your trailer has a flat four connector you don't have a charge line.

It won't charge with a flat 4, you'll need to change to a 7 pins.
