HI, I was wondering were you are installing your battery on a Burro 13'. I have everything I need for installation but was wondering were should I put it?

Hi AJ. I don't have a Burro, but most small trailers have the battery placed on the tongue. Makes it easy for maintenance and no fumes inside the cabin.. so no need to seal an area and then vent the battery.

Mine is inside under the left hand front bench box. It is not vented - I'm a newby. Is that dangerous?

Batteries put off hydrogen gas when charged, especially when charged quickly. Hydrogen is explosive, so you don't want a pocket of it to collect and go off. Flooded cell batteries can also put off acid fumes. You can minimize the danger by using a glass mat battery.

Certainly the best place for a wet cell battery is not inside the trailer. Since we got our Burro, I have had reason to think I would have preferred to have the battery forward on the narrow end of the tongue and twin 20 lb. propane tanks where there is space for them near the trailer body rather than having the single, gut-busting 30 pounder up front. Now that I'm installing a 1500watt inverter, I'm happy with the short battery cable run and if I need to double my amp hours with another battery, there's room for both where the frame is widest altho perhaps not the best place for the weight. It's always a battle between convenience and available space this side of Starship Enterprise.

Thomas G and Jack, Thanks for the info. My burro is in having electric worked on right now. I'll call on Monday and see if they can move the thing out of the interior. That will give me "lots" more storage in there anyhow!

That's the ticket! The battery really doesn't give a hoot if it rides safely on the tongue... but if it was your socks... it may be a different matter
