Bearing seal question ...

Hello All,

I repacked my bearings today. I was surprised that the bearing seal on the interior side of the wheel did not seem to push the interior bearing all the way into the race.

Is this normal?

Also, I noticed that the electric brake magnet seems to "ride" on the surface of the drum, pushed there by a small spring. Is this normal?

Did you wipe grease on the bearing cup in the hub? Then you just lay the bearing cone in the bearing cup and install the seal. The bearing will look loose until you install the hub on the axle spindle. When the nut is installed on the spindle you will not have any loose parts inside. Everything sits in it's place.

The inside seal seals the interface between the hub and the spindle. The inside race on the inner bearing seats against the boss on the spindle.

Did you place grease on the axle part that the seal turns on?
Was the seal flush with the drum after U installed it?

To answer your question, no, the bearing seal is not supposed to hold the bearing in the race. There will be a space between the seal and bearing when it is installed and the tension is set with the axle nut.
