bed size and orientation

Is there a FGRV out there that has a queen size bed that sleeps length-wise rather than cross-wise? That would eliminate one of the main problems of 2 sleeping in the same bed, and that is that one has to crawl over the other in order to get out of bed. Someone on this website has a Scamp 16 for sale and posted a photo of the rear bed which looked like it slept length-wise. I can't seem to find sizes of mattresses on any mfgr's website. They will just say queen or double without giving dimensions, and I know from experience, that could be less than accurate. Any help would be welcomed. Thank you.

The Hunter Compact Jr has such a bed and I think that the Campster can also be rearranged in the manner. Almost forgot, also the Litehouse/Little Joe.


Isn't it funny that the smallest FGRV's turn out having the biggest beds?????
The diminutive 17', 1978 FGRV Sunrader Toyota/Motorhome has a California King bed..... and still has another bed for 2 more peeps.

I can't think of any Scamp that has a lengthwise queen (at least not from the factory), but Casita makes a Liberty model, available in both 16' and 17' lengths, that has a multi-configurable space in the rear. In its largest bed arrangement it makes a lengthwise king, or pretty close.

Our '94 Scamp Deluxe has the bed set up you describe. Twin beds, or king size bed (our heads are located at the back of the camper.) I'm not sure if it's a custom layout but we love it like this.

Never seen that in a 13' Scamp, what happened to the closet and the kitchen sink?

It's the 16' model. Kitchen sink and stove are on the left- hanging closet is still on the right. Porta potty closet is up front. As far as I can tell, it came from the Scamp factory in this layout.

Interesting... I've never seen that layout in a Scamp before either. But I've seen at least one other deluxe version that is not one of their current offerings.

We hadn't seen it either... until it came up for sale about a month ago. A better bed was first on our list, with bathroom facilities a close 2nd. Although this version doesn't have a shower, or toilet with a black water tank, we get by with a dry-flush toilet, and a walk to the shower house in the morning. Having a good night of sleep can make up for the rest of what we don't have.

Absolutely, positively. I don't know of any 16' Scamp with a queen/non-crawl over bed that wasn't an owner mod. Pics would be GRAND

I would put it in a thread first, since app users can't see the registry. However, the registry is a nice archive, searchable, and directly accessible from your posts (so if you ask a question, respondents can verify details of your trailer and set-up). Both, eventually?

That's one of the reasons I became so interested in the German Eriba trailers - they usually have the bed running lengthwise. In my two fiberglass trailers (Boler and U-Haul) the wife always claimed the forward edge of the bed since she seems to have to get up more times during the night. This forced me to the back of the bed where the curved sides of the trailer forced me to have to curl up to sleep since I'm right at 6 feet tall.

I looked at the Casitas because of their bed configuration but like the interior of my Eriba better. The bed on my Triton is about 77" x 77" so we can sleep lengthwise with plenty of room for the Standard Poodle too.

A Tear Drop trailer has a large bed and with door on each side you don't have to crawl over. Also, the bed runs length wise.

My favorite non Trillium trailer is a front kitchen Surfside, with a king sized bed. Sort of like a big Urba Puck. Sleep in it side to side, or front to back. Not much difference.

I also looked at a 17 foot Fiberstream that had a rear mounted kitchen and a huge front bed - I should have bought that one but didn't have a suitable tow vehicle at the time since they weigh around 2500 lbs. Nice trailers though with lots of room.
