I recently purchased a 1980 Bigfoot 17' travel trailer. The exterior has a few cracks in the gel coat and I would like to do the repair myself. Does anyone know which colour gel coat I need for that year & model? Also would anyone have the artwork to get the decals re-done? thanks.

Ralph,

I posted the name of a video on gel coat repairs for boats a year or two ago. The video shows you how to prep and colour match the gel coat colour. Gel coat does not change colour when it sets like paint. It does change colour over the years like everything else, mostly on the surface.

You clean and prep the area. Match the gel coat colour testing it right on the finish without the accelorator. If OK you simply wipe of the gel coat, add the accellerator and finish.

Thanks. I will try and watch those videos, they look very informative. I thought Bigfoot may have had a color code associated with their gel coat but perhaps they dont.

If anyone has come across methods to purchase or make the Bigfoot exterior decals please let me know. They tend to chip and fade over time ...I'm curious as to what other people have done.

Ralph, Bigfoot has changed the look (and color and font) of the decals many times over the years. I currently don't know of anyone that's created a PDF that's usable for a decal shop. You could take a rubbing of what you currently have and see if a shop could recreate them for you. Or, go totally in a different direction and use One Shot paint and masking tape and make the trailer uniquely your own. Lots of hotrodders use One Shot for graphics and pinstriping. Just a thought!
