I had noticed the floor was springy in an area about 4' square by the bathroom of my
bigfoot and since I wanted to replace the carpet anyway I pulled the carpet to see how the plywood was. Well, the plywood is water stained but solid, which made me wonder why the floor was soft. So I had my son walk back and forth inside while I lay underneath the trailer.
The
fiberglass bottom of the trailer actually flexes downward as he walks over that area. It does not do that in any other spot.
So...I know my Dad had a water leak in the bathroom for years which he didn't fix since it was pretty minor. (It has been fixed since), and now I'm wondering if perhaps the cross member beneath the floor at that point might have rotted? I'm about ready to cut out a small section of the plywood flooring to see what is going on but before I do... Any other ideas on this?
Is it normal? Should I just leave it alone? I'm concerned with possible damage to the
fiberglass base if it is supporting all the
weight as we walk about in there.
Update - ok...I drilled a small test hole into the floor support for the plywood and it is solid so I went back under the trailer and started looking around and the problem seems to be that the base of the trailer in that area has no shims between the frame and the
fiberglass bottom. Whereas the frame further back does.

So, thats an easy fix and thank god I didn't just start cutting up the floor without looking into it further! But...I looked at the shims that are in place toward the rear and they don't look like rubber or wood so ...
Anyone know what they are made of? I'm guessing a local RV shop could supply them.
Oh...and colour me happy! Now I just have to repair a small area of plywood and put in lino.
Whoohoo...I may have it done in time to take it out camping in a week or two.
