Thanks very much to everyone for help and advice. The Surfside looks much more respectable now.
I recommend a book I get from the library from time to time; 'The Fibreglass Manual - A practical guide to the use of reinforced plastics' by Keith Noakes. I have found it really handy on this projec as well as a few canoes, motorcycle fairings, and saddlebag projects.
