Boler Door Lock
Can anyone out there in FGRV land tell me if the locking T handle from Vintage Trailer will work on a boler. I would like to order the Canned Ham Door Latch with the Locking L handle but they are out of stock and have been for a while (L Handle). Also, where are the mounting screws located for the T Handle? Under a cover for the piece that would rest against the door? Did I explain that properly?

T handle wouldn't work on my 73 boler. I got a locking L handle at Crappy Tire. I had to cut down the length of the square rod that fits into the inside lock assy

Right now I have the L handle with something similar to the canned ham latch. I wasn't sure if the hollow portion of the door was wide enough to accommodate the shaft of the T handle.

Thanks Jan. I never even thought of checking out Canadian Tire. I guess I thought that if Vintage Trailer sold it then I wouldn't find it anywhere else.

Honestly, the square shaft door handle like Scamp uses (and some other brands) is nothing more than a garage door handle. Check your local hardware or big box hardware stores. You may be pleasantly surprised and save yourself S&H. You'd need to cut the shaft to fit, but that's easy peasy... ask me how I know

That looks like a retrofit. Your trailer may have originally had a Bargman latch. Bargman L400 Door Latch
You'll have to take the metal plate off to see what is underneath. My guess is there is an opening that fits the L400. I may have a spare one that I'm not sure I want to part with just yet.

Thanks Donna. Found one today at McMunn and Yates. Now all I need is the inside piece.

Thanks Roy. I will probably take off that metal plate at some point but I'm going to stick with replacing the lock with what's already there.

my inside latch looks similar, just bigger. I had lots of room inside the door for it to work

Your existing L handle and inside latch assembly is a match to the setup on my 74 Boler (without the aluminium patches).
Looks like someone retrofitted the earlier setup in place of the Bargman L400 your trailer likely came with.
FYI, the round hole on the top left of your inside latch assembly is for the lock pin. A 2" long 3/16" diameter pin is used (just insert the pin into the hole when you are inside the trailer to lock the door).

I don't know what, if anything, is wrong with the inside portion of the lockset, but Paul can help you: Fibreglass RV Parts, Repairs, and Service by Paul Neumeister and he's in Ontario.

on my long trip last week the rivets nearly pulled all the way out on my inside door mechanism, so I will make a nice outside cover plate and rebuild it. Will post pictures

Yea, I didn't have the pin so I have been using a 3 inch nail.
Thanks Donna, I'll check out that link.
The outside handle seems to be worn out and it has a lot of play. The handle will lower on its own and I'll find the door open. Plus the latch doesn't seem to come out all the way anymore
