Boler front and rear windshields/windows

Hi everybody,

Just starting a complete reno on a 1971 Boler.

I need to replace the compound curving front and rear windows.

Anybody know where I can find these (and seals) new?

Robert, the plexi is flat until you put it in, then it curves. You could try Fibreglass RV Parts, Repairs, and Service by Paul Neumeister or with really good measurements try Scamp. If you can use the current plexi for a pattern, you may be able to get it cut locally. Scamp also sells the gasket and lock strip by the foot. You do have a lock strip tool don't you?

You're welcome Robert. One thing about getting the plexi cut locally is the chance of getting tints. Something to consider if heat is a concern. Alot better to have tinted plexi than adding something over the top. Personally, we don't get enough sun here in the PNW as it is, but in other areas of the country tinted windows are necessary.

Ironically, the owners of this Boler told me just today that they wanted tinted windows—ALL around. We plan on replacing the original jalousie's with more modern Hehr radius-cornered style. Hehr has a lot of cool options now...

Robert -- this is a little off topic, but can you tell me a little about how you get your windows from Hehr? I suppose I'm mainly wondering whether you 1. deal with your regional distributor, or 2. go through a particular retailer. I'd also be curious to narrow down price ranges, as the numbers I come up on my forum searches range from $100 to $650 per window!

We've had a hard time getting any sort of return contact from our local Hehr office, and it's proving frustrating to just have no idea what to expect. There are two particular window solutions that we want to customize badly enough to pass up the smokin' deals Scamp offers on their standard sizes.

Plexiglas: Acrylic, Lexan, Polycarbonate all have different abrasion resistances and strength and price. Also the weather seals very in there quality and thickness of gasket with lock systems can work best when window replacement is needed.
A range will be expected.
Acrylics can be easier to scratch and shape with less effort. Lexan is harder to crack but more work to shape often used in commercial garage doors. Some types of Polycarbonate are used for eye ware and can be very tough.
Thickness will change price but if too thick it maybe to hard to bend.
Ask those that have changed their windows for help.

Donna - you are a tremendous wealth of information!! I live in Seattle and drove the 71' Boler to the Egg Plant (owner). I have buddies in Portland that I stayed with on the way down and back up. That is the plan on the return trip when I cruise down to pick up my beautiful finished trailer by Robert. Since I will be in Portland, I would love to connect with you if you'd like to take a peek. You have to see his craftsmanship in person!!

Kathleen, I'd love to meet up with you. Let's connect via PM.

I'm fortunate. I HAVE seen Robert's work in person. He likes to come to our NOGs and the big Oregon Gathering. Sweet!!
