Boler windows

Hello all,

I'm looking at putting new 3/16 plexiglass windows in my Boler. I have square blanks that I need to cut. I am wondering if I cut them the same size as the window opening or smaller by a 1/4in, etc?

Thanks!

Lexan would be a better choice.
Plexi is very brittle
If the windows are stock use the same size.
you could make awning/travel protectors from the old ones.
Have you tried to revive them before replacing.
I just used a auto headlight product(don't have name right now)
and just hand rubbing the product with clean towel.
I'm happy with results.
Fred

If you have not seen it we have a member here who has done a fantastic job of documenting all their Boler modification - including replacing the Plexi windows of their boler. Lots of good info and videos as to how he did it.

Polycarbonate (Lexan) is tougher but also softer than Acrylic (Plexiglass), it is more difficult to polish out scratches in Poly but also not as prone to cracking, It is also much more resistant to impact. If you use Polycarbonate make sure you get UV coated, if you don't it will yellow very quickly.

To specifically answer your question try to use the original windows as a template. the actual window dimensions depend on the window seal you use and the thickness of the web section between the body and the window.

A caution, please install the window molding so the lock seal is positioned towards the outside, NOT the inside. The way the molding is made it is designed to seal properly when installed with the lock strip facing out or the "weather" side. Also the strength of the molding is designed to hold the window securely, especially when you consider the air pressure exerted on the window while driving on the highway.

I have come across and been contacted by quite a few who have installed the rubber window molding with the lock strip facing the inside thinking it looks better, their common question or problem is that the window leaks and others have continued problems with the front window actually blowing out of the body into the trailer while driving

Thank you all your your replies. I was given 2 blanks of 3/16 plexi from the previous owner. There are no front or rear windows in the trailer now.
My plan is to order the lock seal and moulding from Scamp then just trace the opening onto the blank. Anyone try this?

Could you use the old window as a patter to cut the new window using a trim bit on a router?

Yes you definitely can, that will work very well as long as the old window is not so brittle it breaks trying to clamp it to the new window blank.

I'll keep that in mind when I setup.
Thanks Ian. I appreciate your advice.
